Gupta said charging infrastructure remains one of the biggest challenges for electric buses. This is more visible on long routes where charging stations are limited or not reliable.
If charging stations with good uptime can be developed, it will help operators feel more confident. It will also help passengers trust electric buses more for daily travel.
Discussions with Charging Partners Continue
According to Gupta, discussions with charging players keep happening as part of day-to-day business. As of now nothing has been finalised and there is no fixed timeline in place. He said the company prefers to look at opportunities as they come and then decide where it can step in and support the ecosystem. Volvo buses and Eicher buses are likely to benefit as the market grows.
OEM-Built Electric Buses Becoming Popular
VE Commercial Vehicles is also pushing more OEM-built buses instead of just supplying chassis. Customers now prefer complete buses designed and built by the manufacturer.
Electric buses need careful design because of high-voltage systems, automation and long daily usage. Gupta said this responsibility lies mainly with the OEM.
Safety Priority Over Body Design
On third-party body building, Gupta said safety should always come first. It does not matter who builds the bus as long as safety standards are followed. OEMs usually work under more controlled processes, which helps in maintaining quality over time.
Electric Mobility Seen as Long-Term Business
VE Commercial Vehicles started working on electric mobility in 2021. Since then, it has expanded its plans beyond buses and is also preparing electric trucks. Gupta said electric buses will slowly form a bigger part of the company’s portfolio over the next five years. Growth is expected from both government tenders and private operators.
