Ashok Leyland relaunched TAURUS tippers and HIPPO trailers for mining, construction and long routes, offering strong engines, better comfort and reliable performance.

Ashok Leyland, part of the Hinduja Group, has relaunched two trucks – TAURUS and HIPPO. TAURUS is for heavy tipper work and HIPPO is for tractor trailer jobs. Both trucks are strong, reliable and trusted in India.

The trucks were shown by Shenu Agarwal, CEO of Ashok Leyland, along with Sanjeev Kumar, President - MHCV and Madhavi Deshmukh, National Sales Head. Dealers, customers and media people also attended the launch.

The new trucks give better fuel efficiency, strong uptime and more comfort for drivers. They are designed to help fleet owners get more work done with less trouble. Built on Ashok Leyland’s strong truck platform, these trucks come in different versions and options. Now, TAURUS and HIPPO are available for booking and delivery at Ashok Leyland dealerships across India.

TAURUS is available in 3532 and 2832 models. These trucks are used at mining areas, construction sites and road projects.

TAURUS 3532 has a GVW of 35,000 kg. It uses an 8.0 litre engine with six cylinders. Power is 320 HP and torque is 1300 Nm. The truck comes with a 9-speed gearbox and a tiltable day cabin. It is made for carrying heavy loads on rough roads.

TAURUS 2832 is lighter with a GVW of 28,000 kg. Engine and power remain the same. This truck is useful where load is slightly less but strong performance is still needed.

Both tippers have strong suspension and a solid body. Long warranty and long service gap help reduce maintenance tension.

Ashok Leyland HIPPO Tractor Trailers: Long Haul Specialists

The HIPPO 5536 range includes both HIPPO 5536 6x4 and HIPPO 5536 4x2 tractor trailers, sharing the same powerful specifications. These trucks are made for long-distance transport and heavy trailer hauling, perfect for bulk commodities, industrial materials and ODC transport.

  • Powered by an 8.0 L A-Series BS-VI engine, the trucks produce 360 HP and 1600 Nm torque.
  • They feature a 9S 15409 synchromesh gearbox, a 430 mm clutch with air-assisted hydraulic booster and a strong bolted chassis.
  • Front axle is Forged 1-section Reverse Elliot type, while the rear axle is hub reduction.

Suspension includes parabolic leaf springs at the front and bogie suspension with rubber bolsters at the rear, reducing driver fatigue on long journeys. Brakes are full air dual line with ABS and ASA. Fuel capacity is 375L, with a 50L DEF tank and the cabin is a tiltable factory-built sleeper, HVAC optional for extra comfort. The wheelbase is 3900 mm with a TOD of 14.3 m, making it suitable for demanding loads and long trips.

Mr. Sanjeev Kumar highlighted, “HIPPO and TAURUS aren’t just product names; they are legends that earned the trust of generations of Indian transporters.” These trailer trucks offer enhanced ease of operation, faster turnaround times and higher uptime, translating into better profitability for fleet operators.

Legacy Meets Modern Technology

HIPPO and TAURUS are not new names for Indian transporters. HIPPO was popular many years ago for its strength. TAURUS was known as the first multi-axle tipper and became a common name for heavy trucks.

The new versions keep the same tough image but come with updated engines and better comfort. These trucks are made for daily hard work, not showroom looks.

Conclusion

With the launch of TAURUS and HIPPO, Ashok Leyland strengthens its leadership in India’s commercial vehicle market. These tipper trucks and trailer trucks are designed to meet modern heavy-duty requirements while retaining the trusted legacy of performance and reliability. Fleet operators across India now have access to trucks that combine power, comfort and efficiency – all backed by Ashok Leyland’s strong network and decades of expertise.

Whether it’s mining, construction, or long-haul transport, these newly launched trucks are ready to handle the toughest jobs on Indian roads.
