Jio-bp and UPSRTC will develop EV charging support for more than 100 electric buses operating across Uttar Pradesh and Delhi in the coming months.

Electric buses are getting more attention in India now, specially in big states where daily passenger movement is very high. Jio-bp and Uttar Pradesh State Road Transport Corporation (UPSRTC) have started working together for a new EV charging project in Uttar Pradesh and Delhi.

This partnership will support the preparation of a charging network for more than 100 electric buses. These buses will run in six clusters across UP and Delhi in the coming months. The project is mainly focused on improving charging access for public transport vehicles so operations can run smoother.

The charging infrastructure will be developed through Jio-bp pulse, which handles the company’s EV mobility business. Fast chargers will be installed for buses that operate continuously during the day. Since public buses do not get much stopping time, quick charging becomes important for smooth service.

Electric buses usually work on fixed schedules and high passenger routes. Because of that, transport operators need charging stations that can save time and avoid long waiting periods. The company said this setup is being planned while keeping daily fleet operations in mind. At present, many transport departments are adding electric buses slowly into their fleets. Demand is also increasing for modern buses and 40-seater buses in city transport systems.

Akshay Wadhwa, CEO of Jio-bp, said the partnership fits with the company’s larger strategy of building a scalable EV charging network in India. The company believes commercial fleet electrification will grow further in the coming years.

Industry experts also feel that more partnerships between transport corporations and charging companies may happen ahead as electric public transport continues expanding slowly across different states.
