Jio-bp and UPSRTC will develop EV charging support for more than 100 electric buses operating across Uttar Pradesh and Delhi in the coming months.
Electric buses are getting more attention in India now, specially in big states where daily passenger movement is very high. Jio-bp and Uttar Pradesh State Road Transport Corporation (UPSRTC) have started working together for a new EV charging project in Uttar Pradesh and Delhi.
This partnership will support the preparation of a charging network for more than 100 electric buses. These buses will run in six clusters across UP and Delhi in the coming months. The project is mainly focused on improving charging access for public transport vehicles so operations can run smoother.

The charging infrastructure will be developed through Jio-bp pulse, which handles the company’s EV mobility business. Fast chargers will be installed for buses that operate continuously during the day. Since public buses do not get much stopping time, quick charging becomes important for smooth service.
Electric buses usually work on fixed schedules and high passenger routes. Because of that, transport operators need charging stations that can save time and avoid long waiting periods. The company said this setup is being planned while keeping daily fleet operations in mind. At present, many transport departments are adding electric buses slowly into their fleets. Demand is also increasing for modern buses and 40-seater buses in city transport systems.
Jio-bp Expanding Its EV Presence
Jio-bp already has a large charging network of more than 6,000 EV charging points across India. With this new agreement, its focus on commercial vehicle charging is becoming stronger. The company is trying to build a bigger EV ecosystem for business and fleet users. Charging support for buses is different from normal passenger vehicles because buses need higher power and regular operation support.
In the commercial vehicle market, companies making Tata buses, Bharatbenz buses and Volvo buses are also seeing growing interest from transport operators looking toward electric mobility solutions.
Public Transport Slowly Moving Towards EVs
In many cities, electric mobility is becoming part of public transport planning. State transport corporations are trying to reduce fuel expenses and pollution at the same time, so electric buses are now being added on selected routes.
The Jio-bp and UPSRTC partnership is also linked with this wider shift happening in India. Tier 1 and Tier 2 cities are seeing better EV infrastructure compared to a few years back. Still, charging availability remains one of the biggest challenges for large fleets. Because of this, projects focused on charging networks are getting importance now. Without proper charging support, running electric buses on long daily routes becomes difficult sometimes.
Companies Looking At Long-Term EV Growth
Akshay Wadhwa, CEO of Jio-bp, said the partnership fits with the company’s larger strategy of building a scalable EV charging network in India. The company believes commercial fleet electrification will grow further in the coming years.
Industry experts also feel that more partnerships between transport corporations and charging companies may happen ahead as electric public transport continues expanding slowly across different states.
