Sany To Deploy Over 100 Electric Trucks In Vietnam

By Jony Shekhawat | Published Date : May 27, 2026

Sany’s latest electric truck expansion in Vietnam highlights the growing interest in zero-emission heavy commercial vehicles across Asian transport markets.

Chinese commercial vehicle and heavy equipment company Sany has officially entered Vietnam’s electric heavy-duty truck market with the launch of its new EV550 tractor truck. The company has already received orders for more than 100 electric trucks in the country, which is being seen as a big step for Vietnam’s growing electric commercial vehicle segment.

Sany has partnered with Hung Thinh EV Truck, a newly formed subsidiary of Vietnamese group Hung Thinh, which will work as the exclusive distributor for the company’s electric tractor trucks in Vietnam. The launch event also became important for another reason because local cement maker Long Son Cement placed an order for 100 electric heavy-duty trucks on the very first day itself. According to Sany, this is now a new national record in Vietnam’s electric heavy-duty truck category.

The company did not say for sure if all one hundred trucks that Long Son Cement ordered are the EV550 model or if they also got some kinds of electric trucks.. Sany was really fast and they delivered the first bunch of trucks after they had the official launch ceremony. This first bunch had eight EV550 trucks in it.

After they made this announcement some other companies in Vietnam that do transport and industry work also said they would buy trucks from Sany. These companies said they would buy between ten and forty trucks. This means that people in Vietnam are starting to get more interested in heavy-duty vehicles, especially the people who run transport companies for industries like Long Son Cement and other companies that use electric trucks, like the EV550 model.

EV550 Comes In Two Different Versions

Globally, Sany offers the EV550 in two variants called ‘composite’ and ‘super’. Both versions are designed for heavy-duty transport operations but support different combined weight capacities. The composite version can handle up to 75 tonnes of combined weight. It is 7.35 metres long 2.55 metres wide and 3.72 metres high.

Sany has put a 270 kW motor and a four-speed automated manual transmission in this version. The company gives buyers three battery pack options like 282 kWh, 350 kWh and 423 kWh. This gives fleet operators a choice of trucks based on their transport needs and how far they drive each day.

Fast Battery Swapping Is Major Highlight

One of the biggest highlights of the EV550 is its battery swapping technology. Sany says each battery pack can be swapped in less than five minutes, which can reduce waiting time for commercial fleet operators.

Apart from battery swapping, the trucks also support fast charging. The battery can charge from 10 percent to 90 percent in around one hour or even less. This feature may become useful for logistics companies that need trucks for long operating hours every day. The super version of the EV550 is slightly longer at 7,395 mm because of increased rear axle spacing. However, its width and height remain the same as the composite model. Sany uses the same 270 kW motor in this version too, while offering 282 kWh and 350 kWh swappable battery pack options.

Electric Truck Market Slowly Expanding

Vietnam’s electric commercial vehicle market is still at an early stage, but Sany’s latest move shows that global manufacturers are now taking the segment seriously. Heavy-duty electric trucks are mainly being explored for industrial operations where companies want lower emissions and reduced fuel dependency.

Industry experts belive battery swapping technology may also help improve adoption in the future because fleet operators usually prefer vehicles with less downtime. While challenges like charging infrastructure still remain, the growing order numbers suggest that interest in electric heavy-duty trucks is increasing slowly across the region.

Frequently Asked Questions on Commercial Vehicle

Q1. What is the average range of electric commercial vehicles?

Ans. The driving range of electric commercial vehicles depends on battery size and load conditions. Most electric trucks and buses currently offer a range between 150 km and 350 km on a single charge.

Q2. Are electric commercial vehicles cheaper to maintain than diesel vehicles?

Ans. Yes, electric commercial vehicles usually have lower maintenance costs because they have fewer moving parts and do not require engine oil changes or complex exhaust system repairs.

Q3. Which battery types are mostly used in electric trucks?

Ans. Many electric commercial vehicles use Lithium-ion or LFP (Lithium Iron Phosphate) battery technology because these batteries offer better safety, longer life, and stable performance.

Q4. How long does it take to charge an electric commercial vehicle?

Ans. Charging time depends on battery size and charger capacity. Fast chargers can charge many electric commercial vehicles from 10 percent to 80 or 90 percent in around one to two hours.
