India's three-wheeler sales dropped 2.26% in August 2025, but electric 3-wheelers saw growth with Mahindra and TVS leading the market shift.
India’s three-wheeler market saw a small decline in August 2025. Around 103,105 units were sold across the country, down from 105,493 in August 2024. That’s a 2.26% year-on-year drop, according to FADA. Still, it’s not all bad news—some brands, especially those focusing on electric 3-wheelers, had a pretty good month.
Players like Mahindra and TVS Motors posted solid growth, while others like Bajaj and Piaggio felt the pressure. So, while the market’s shifting, it’s clear that passenger autos and loading autos running on electric power are gaining traction.

Bajaj Auto
Bajaj stayed on top with 35,159 units sold, but it’s a 6.89% drop from last year. The brand remains a big name in the passenger auto space, mostly ICE-based. But yes, signs of demand cooling are there.
Mahindra & Mahindra
Big win here. Mahindra clocked in 9,360 units, a solid 63% jump from last August. Their focus on electric 3-wheelers, especially in cities, is clearly paying off.
Piaggio
Piaggio managed to sell 6,725 units, which is down 8.93% YoY. Competition in both regular and electric three-wheelers seems to be giving it a tough time.
TVS Motors
Here’s another success story. TVS sold 4,384 units, which is almost double what they did last year. Their push for EVs and expanding dealer network looks like it's working.
YC Electric
This YC Electric brand sold 3,424 units, a dip of about 9.72%. They still have a foothold in the budget electric passenger auto segment, but the fall suggests some headwinds.
Mayuri Electric
Mayuri sold 2,172 units, which is quite a sharp drop (22.6%) from last year. The low-cost EV market is getting crowded—and price competition could be a reason.
Atul Auto
Stable as ever. Atul sold 2,107 units, barely changed from last year’s 2,102. The company seems to be doing well in its loading auto category.
Citylife Electric
Citylife sold 1,816 units, which is a 17.71% drop year-on-year. It’s another EV player feeling the heat of growing competition.
What About the Rest?
All other brands, including many EV startups, sold a total of 37,958 units. That’s 8.42% lower than what they managed last August. The market is getting tougher and smaller players might be feeling the pressure.
Final Thoughts
Even with a slight drop in overall three-wheeler sales, electric 3-wheelers are still gaining ground. Brands that have invested in EVs—like Mahindra and TVS—are seeing the rewards. On the flip side, traditional ICE players are noticing some slowdown.
It’s clear the market is shifting. With cities looking at cleaner transport and fuel prices rising, electric autos, both for passengers and loading, are becoming more appealing by the day.
