Battery Smart completes 100 million EV battery swaps and launches ₹10 crore Driver Welfare Fund to support 1 lakh drivers of electric 3 wheelers, mini trucks and buses.
Battery Smart has become India’s first company to complete 100 million battery swaps across its network of electric two- and three-wheelers. This milestone comes nearly five years after the company was founded in 2019 by IIT-Kanpur graduates Pulkit Khurana and Siddharth Sikka. The company operates about 70% of India’s battery swapping infrastructure and has enabled 3.5 billion clean kilometres, avoiding around 237,000 tonnes of CO₂ emissions, which is like saving 233 million litres of fuel. Driver earnings through the platform have crossed Rs 2,800 crores.

Along with this milestone, Battery Smart announced a Driver Welfare Fund 2026 worth Rs 10 crore. The fund aims to provide insurance, financial protection, rewards, skill development and community inclusion for around 1 lakh EV drivers. The fund will support drivers of electric 3 wheelers, mini trucks, buses, electric buses and other commercial EV vehicles across India.
Pulkit Khurana and Siddharth Sikka said, “Crossing 100 million swaps is not just a landmark for us but for EV adoption in India. Every swap represents a choice for clean mobility and better uptime. This success belongs to our driver community, swap station partners, OEMs, investors and policymakers.”
Empowering Drivers and Women Partners
Battery Smart has built a strong ecosystem including more than 5,000 women drivers and 250+ women partners. Their technology uses IoT-enabled batteries with real-time monitoring for predictive maintenance. This reduces downtime for drivers of electric 3 wheelers, mini trucks, buses and trucks. The company also plans to expand to 100 more cities by 2026 and increase swap stations to support daily operations for commercial EV operators.
Future Plans and Electric Mobility Impact
Siddharth Sikka said, “The Driver Welfare Fund reinforces our commitment to drivers who made this possible. We will continue to grow India’s EV mobility backbone, powered by smarter batteries, efficient operations and safety systems. This is just the beginning of clean mobility for India.”
Battery Smart’s roadmap includes investments in next-generation safety systems and enhanced IoT intelligence. With over 1,600 swap stations and 1 lakh drivers across 50+ cities, the company is creating a scalable solution for electric 3 wheelers, mini trucks, electric trucks, buses and electric buses, making EV adoption easier, faster and more inclusive in India.
