India’s commercial vehicle market showed steady growth in May 2026. As per FADA retail data, total CV sales reached 83,823 units. This is a rise of 5.29% compared to last year. Demand was better in all segments like LCV, MCV and HCV. The market overall looks positive for the financial year start.
Tata Motors Keeps Clear Lead
Tata Motors continued its strong run in the CV space. The company sold 29,603 units of Tata commercial vehicles in May 2026. Last year same month it was 27,013 units. So growth is clearly visible here. Its market share also moved up to 35.32%.
Tata is still far ahead of all other players. The brand is holding trust in both cargo and passenger CV segments. Its network and product range help it to stay on top.
Mahindra Holds Second Position Firmly
Mahindra & Mahindra again stayed at second place in the market. The company sold 22,307 units of Mahindra commercial vehicles in May 2026. This is higher than last year numbers also. The market share of Mahindra reached 26.61%. The brand is slowly but steadily growing in CV space. It is giving strong competition in the LCV segment especially. Performance is stable and consistent.
Ashok Leyland, VECV and Others' Performance
Ashok Leyland commercial vehicles stayed at third position with 14,812 units sales. But its share slightly went down to 17.67%. Sales are almost flat this time, no big jump seen. VE Commercial Vehicles sold 7,227 units with small growth. Maruti Suzuki also performed better and sold 3,636 units, showing good jump year on year.
BharatBenz commercial vehicles recorded 1,888 units sales with minor growth. Force Motors saw a drop and came at 1,651 units. SML Mahindra also went slightly down in sales to 1,516 units.

Overall CV industry is still in a growing phase. All major segments like LCV, MCV and HCV showed positive movement. Demand is coming from logistics and infrastructure work across India. Market competition is getting stronger between top brands. Tata still leader but Mahindra closing gap slowly. Other brands trying to improve their share in the coming months.
