FADA Report Shows 7.20% Dip in 3-Wheeler Sales
By Jony Shekhawat | Published Date : October 08, 2025
FADA report shows mixed performance, Bajaj stays on top, while Mahindra and TVS shine with strong electric 3-wheeler growth across India.
The Federation of Automobile Dealers Associations (FADA) shared its retail sales data for September 2025, showing a small slowdown in India’s 3-wheeler market. Total sales reached 98,866 units, while the previous year’s September had 1,06,534 units. That means around a 7.20% decline in the overall market. Experts say this dip happened because of uneven regional demand and a slight slowdown in rural business. Still, 3-wheelers and electric 3-wheelers remain a big part of India’s transport chain, same as trucks, buses, mini trucks, pickups, and electric trucks support the bigger commercial movement across cities and villages.

The 3-wheeler segment showed a mixed mood this month. Mahindra and TVS Motors have strong growth. The Bajaj, Piaggio and Mayuri 3-wheelers sold this year. After this loss, Bajaj Auto is leading the market by selling the most vehicles. The market’s shift toward electric 3-wheelers also changed the way many companies performed this month.
Bajaj Auto: Still Leading but Slight Dip
Bajaj Auto again stayed at the top, even with a 7.04% decline. The company sold around 34,792 units in September 2025 compared to 37,426 units last year. Its petrol and CNG 3-wheelers are still very popular, especially in cargo transport, just like small trucks and pickups used for daily goods movement. Bajaj’s strong presence in cities and rural areas helped it stay number one even when the market looked a bit down.
Mahindra: Strong Growth with Electric Focus
Mahindra performed great this time. The company sold about 8,861 units, showing a jump of nearly 31.9% compared to last year. The brand’s electric 3-wheelers and last-mile cargo models helped it grow fast. Mahindra’s push toward cleaner and cost-effective mobility options is helping it become one of the top names in the segment. The same trend can be seen in its electric pickup and small truck plans too, as customers look for better running costs and reliable performance.
Piaggio: Facing Pressure from New EV Players
Piaggio sold around 5,803 units in September 2025, which is less than the 7,780 units sold last year; the graph is 25% lower. This fall happened mainly because of rising competition from new EV startups and changing customer preferences toward affordable electric 3-wheelers. Piaggio is now trying to refresh its lineup toward electric trucks for a better future.
TVS Motors: Biggest Growth in the Segment
TVS Motors showed the highest growth among all. It sold 4,317 units this September compared to 2,011 units last year — that’s an incredible 114.67% rise. The reason behind this success is their focus on electric 3-wheelers and expanding reach in semi-urban and tier-2 cities. TVS’s strategy clearly worked well and proved that buyers are now showing strong trust in electric models for short city runs and goods delivery.
YC Electric, Atul Auto, and Others
YC Electric, one of the leading electric 3-wheeler brands, sold 3,209 units, down 16% from last year. Still, it remains strong in the affordable EV passenger space. Atul Auto performed better, growing around 8%, with 2,358 units sold — thanks to consistent demand from small fleet owners and delivery partners. Mayuri’s numbers dropped sharply to 1,627 units, almost 35% down, due to tough competition in entry-level EVs. City Life also saw a fall of 26.8%, reaching 1,535 units, mainly because of increased new brand entries and scattered demand. Other smaller and new EV manufacturers together sold about 36,364 units, slightly less than before but still showing the market’s growing EV interest.
Electric Mobility Gaining Real Strength
Even though total 3-wheeler sales went down, the report clearly shows how the electric 3-wheeler segment is rising fast. Like electric trucks and electric pickups changing the commercial road scene, these small EVs are reshaping India’s local mobility. The market may look slow now, but the electric side is getting stronger each month.
Conclusion
September 2025 wasn’t the best month for 3-wheeler makers, but the shift toward electric 3-wheelers is clearly visible. Bajaj faced some pressure, while Mahindra and TVS made strong progress with their electric plans. The FADA report tells us one thing — the future of 3-wheelers in India is moving fast toward electric mobility, supported by the same clean energy trend that’s already touching trucks, buses, mini trucks, and electric trucks.
Data is collected from 1,386 RTOs across India (excluding Telangana), in coordination with the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH).
