The commercial vehicle industry in India faced a 3% dip last year, marking the fourth year of weak performance. However, the trend is expected to shift. According to Kumar, the industry is likely to grow in single digits this fiscal year, supported by the government’s push for infrastructure development and steady demand from core sectors like construction and mining. Ashok Leyland trucks are expected to benefit from this positive outlook as the company focuses on expanding its presence in key markets.
Focus on the Northern Market
North India dealerships are planned for 30% of our overall sales as per their strategy. “Right now, it's a bit lower than that. So we’re investing in this market to serve our customers better and be where the demand is growing.
Industry Outlook and Company Plans
Ashok Leyland is planning to grow faster than the market and much of that growth will come from a stronger presence in the North. The company has already gained 6.5% market share in the last three years and it’s clear they’re aiming even higher.
Strengthening Customer Support
The industry growth is expected to be driven by the government investment in infrastructure and tailwinds such as the good performance of core industries, Kumar said. He added that they want the North market's contribution to reach at least 30%, as it is currently a bit low. With rising demand and increasing infrastructure needs, the role of trucks in supporting this growth becomes even more important.
Further, he said, "We have gained nearly 6.5% market share in the last three years. We remain dedicated to strengthening our presence in Northern India." As part of its expansion in the said market, Ashok Leyland plans to add more than 50 touchpoints this year. The company operates almost 300 channel outlets across the region.
Conclusion
We remain dedicated to strengthening our presence in Northern India,” Kumar added and this bold expansion proves it. With the North shaping up to be a key growth area in India’s transport sector, Ashok Leyland’s latest move puts it in a strong position to serve more customers, more efficiently and drive the future of commercial mobility in the region.
