Delhi aims to boost EV use again with a fresh focus on clean and affordable electric vehicles.

Delhi buyers who purchased electric vehicles earlier or want to buy now finally got some hope. The Delhi government is preparing to restart the subsidy portal, so buyers can receive money they were waiting for. Many people who bought electric cars, electric buses, electric truck models, electric mini truck options and electric pickup vehicles did not get the Delhi subsidy for many months.

Right now, the central government’s EV subsidy is still running in Delhi. But the Delhi government’s own subsidy has not reached people for a long time. Because of this, EVs are not as affordable as the government had promised earlier. This also slowed down the plan to push electric truck, electric mini truck, buses and electric pickup adoption in the city.

Delhi EV Policy Started Strong but Stopped in 2024

Delhi launched its EV policy in August 2020. At that time, the first 1,000 electric cars got up to ₹1.5 lakh subsidy. Two-wheelers, autos and e-rickshaws got ₹30,000 support. But in January 2024, the subsidy stopped completely. Reports say around ₹49 crore subsidy is still pending for many buyers, and the issue even reached the court.

New Portal Almost Ready with Updated System

Officials say work on the new subsidy portal is almost finished. This portal was inactive since the previous government, but now some updates are being added to make the process smooth and easy. Complete details will be shared when the Chief Minister launches the portal. After that, buyers who purchased EVs like electric trucks, electric mini trucks, electric buses and electric pickup vehicles may soon start receiving their pending subsidy.

Delhi Wants to Become Electric Capital by 2026

Delhi government said again that it wants to make the city an “Electric Capital” by 2026. Earlier, they planned this for 2025, but it did not work out. The central government also told Delhi to use more EVs so the pollution comes down and the city becomes cleaner.

Subsidy Restart May Boost EV Demand Again

If the subsidy begins again, more people may choose electric pickup models, electric truck fleets, electric mini truck delivery vehicles and electric buses for travel and business work. This will help improve air quality and support EV growth in Delhi.
