Weekly Auto News: Supply Concerns, March Sales Outlook and HMSI Production Plans
By Amit Jangra | Published Date : March 31, 2026
Auto industry faces supply concerns due to West Asia tensions, but production remains stable while companies stay cautious about rising costs and future disruptions.
This week, auto industry is looking a bit worried because of tensions in West Asia. Situation there is affecting supply chain slowly.
Main issue is fuel and transport cost. When routes get disturbed, shipping becomes costly and late. This is creating pressure, especially for small suppliers who already work on low margins.
Right now, production is still going on normal. But if situation continues, then companies making trucks, buses and even mini trucks may start facing problems.

Government has also given some advice to auto companies. They are told to manage fuel carefully, plan production better and try to use electricity where possible.
At the same time, government said that India still has enough fuel stock for around two months. So there is no immediate panic, but still companies are being careful.
To support industry, LPG supply for commercial use has been increased by 20%. This will help some parts of auto sector to keep running.
Cost Pressure Increasing for Components
Another problem is rising cost of parts. Many components, especially electronics and semiconductors, are imported.
Due to issues in trade routes like Strait of Hormuz, delivery time is increasing and cost also going up. This is making things difficult for companies.
Even vehicles like pickups and 3 wheelers depend on these parts, so impact is not limited to one segment only.
Still, for now, companies are managing somehow. But if delay continues, production schedules can get affected later.
Sales Outlook Still Positive for March
Despite all these issues, sales numbers for March are looking okay. Passenger vehicle sales may grow around 10 to 14 percent compared to last year.
This shows that demand is still there in market. People are still buying vehicles, even when global situation is not very stable.
For segments like trucks and buses also, demand is expected to stay stable in short term.
Policy Support and Future Plans
Government has also extended support for electric vehicles. Subsidy for electric two-wheelers is now extended till July 2026.
Support for electric 3 wheelers will continue till March 2028. This is done to push EV adoption slowly.
At the same time, companies are also planning expansion. Some are working on new plants, while others adjusting production based on demand.
Mixed Week for Auto Industry
Overall, this week was mixed for auto sector. On one side, supply risk and cost pressure is increasing.
On the other side, sales demand is still holding. So situation is not bad, but not fully stable also.
If global tensions reduce, things can improve fast. But if not, companies dealing in trucks, mini trucks and other vehicles may need to adjust plans again.
