Vehicle Registrations Jump 19% This Navratri–Diwali

Festival season boosts truck, bus, mini truck, pickup, and electric truck registrations across India.

This festival season, India’s vehicle market really went on a high. From Navratri till Diwali, around 3.45 million vehicles got registered — that’s about 19% more than last year. With GST rates dropping and festive discounts everywhere, people just rushed to buy cars, bikes, trucks, even electric ones. Dealers in most cities said they hardly got a break during those weeks.

As usual, two-wheelers took the top spot — around 2.57 million of them sold, nearly 20% higher than before. Passenger cars also saw solid growth, about 17% more. A lot of buyers went for small pickups and some tried electric trucks too. The timing of the GST cut and festival offers made many buyers decide quickly instead of waiting.

Mini Trucks, Pickups, and Buses on the Rise

Sales of mini trucks and light commercial vehicles jumped by 23% to 71,700+ units. Three-wheelers also went up by 11%, and even tractors gained about 9%. Only medium and heavy trucks dropped slightly, around 2%, with total sales near 28,000 units. On the other side, buses and pickups were in good demand — especially in smaller cities where local transport gets busy in festivals.

Festive Rush Brought Big Numbers

Many people were waiting for GST rates to go down, and once that happened in late September, sales just shot up. Maruti Suzuki got nearly 4.5 lakh bookings, including 1 lakh small cars. Tata Motors sold around 1 lakh passenger vehicles. This sale jump is 33% more than the previous year.  Clearly, festival time is still the best time for the vehicle business in India.

Peak Season vs Full Window

If we see just Navratri to Diwali, growth looks really strong — two-wheelers up 36%, cars 34.8%, three-wheelers 24.5%, and commercial vehicles around 15%. But for the full season, from Ganesh Chaturthi till Diwali, the overall rise is near 6%. Most buyers prefer waiting for the exact festival and discounts before making their final purchase.

Why This Growth Matters

More vehicles mean stronger movement of goods and people. Truck, bus, and pickup owners get more business. Even awareness of electric trucks is rising fast, which is a good sign for cleaner transport in the future. This festive boost has again shown how important the season is for India’s auto market.

Conclusion

The festival and GST cut together created the perfect buying mood. From bikes and cars to mini trucks and EVs — everything sold more this year. Dealers stayed super busy, people were happy with offers, and the auto market felt alive again. If things keep going like this, next year could be even better.
