Under this scheme, an accident victim can get hospital treatment without paying cash at the start. The financial limit is ₹1.5 lakh. This support is available for up to seven days from the date of accident.

If the injury is very serious and life-threatening, emergency care is covered for up to 48 hours. If the injury is not very serious, stabilisation treatment is provided for 24 hours. In both cases, total support can continue for seven days within the set limit.

This can help people injured in accidents involving commercial vehicles, trucks, buses and even smaller transport vehicles.

How Hospitals and Government Will Manage It

Hospitals will not ask for money immediately. The payment will be handled later through a system connected with government funds and insurance. The Ministry of Road Transport and Highways has said that hospitals will get reimbursement from the Motor Vehicle Accident Fund.

The scheme also works with the 112 emergency helpline. Anyone present at the accident spot can call 112 to get help and information about the nearest hospital. Quick response is very important in such cases.

Police verification is also needed. They have to confirm accident details within a given time. If this step gets delayed, then paperwork may slow down. A digital system is being used to connect police reports and hospital records, so that process becomes smoother.

One important part of PM RAHAT is coordination. Transport department, health services, insurance agencies and police are all linked together in this plan. On paper it looks well connected. But real result will depend on how properly it is followed at ground level.
