Eicher Trucks & Buses leads India’s commercial vehicle future with efficient, durable and smart trucks using next-gen powertrain technologies and alternative fuels.

Eicher Trucks & Buses, a key brand of Eicher Motors, is leading India’s commercial vehicle industry with smarter, more efficient and sustainable innovations. With over 50,000 engines produced annually, Eicher is powering the future of trucks and pickups in India.

At the launch of the Eicher Pro Plus series, Sachin Agrawal, EVP – Product Development, shared how engineering meets electronics to build advanced commercial vehicles. Eicher’s focus remains on fuel efficiency, sustainability, durability and regulatory readiness.

As air-conditioning becomes mandatory in trucks, fuel consumption increases. Known as Mileage ka Badshah, Eicher solved this by connecting the AC system with the truck’s engine management. This allows dynamic control for better fuel efficiency and driver comfort.

Eicher also introduced scroll compressors and variable displacement compressors that use less fuel and reduce wear and tear.

“When electronics meet engineering with purpose, the outcomes redefine efficiency,” said Agrawal.

Durability and Long-Lasting Performance

Eicher builds durable trucks. For example, the condenser fan in Eicher trucks is tested for over 3,000 hours, much more than the industry average. Sealed clutches and advanced filters ensure HVAC performance even in rough conditions.

Future-Ready Engines and Emission Standards

Eicher is preparing for future norms like BS VII and Euro 7, years ahead of India’s deadline. Their collaboration with Volvo Group strengthens this development. Eicher also supports real-world testing standards like VECTO and WLTP for better fuel efficiency data.

Cybersecurity and Smart Truck Tech

With modern trucks using 6–7 ECUs, cybersecurity is now a priority. Eicher is ready for AIS 189 and 190 cybersecurity rules. Trucks also get Firmware Over-The-Air (FOTA) updates—rare even in cars—keeping systems up to date without downtime.

Alternative Fuels and EV Readiness

Diesel is still the main fuel, but CNG now powers up to 15% of Eicher’s light- and medium-duty trucks. LNG is being tested for long-distance hauls and electric trucks are gaining ground in city logistics.

Eicher is also investing in hybrid systems—a mix of diesel and electric—for better efficiency.

World-Class Powertrain Facility

Eicher’s advanced engine facility, developed with Volvo in 2010, makes 5L and 8L engines for global markets. In India, they also produce 2L to 3.8L diesel and CNG engines, powering every Eicher truck.

Agrawal proudly says:

“Our own engines power every Eicher vehicle. This deep integration builds smarter, more cost-effective systems.”
