Blue Energy Motors Secures $50M to Drive Sustainable Trucking

Blue Energy Motors raises $50M to expand and LNG truck production, aiming to boost green transport and reduce carbon emissions in India's freight sector.
Blue Energy Motors (BEM), a Mumbai-based startup focused on building clean-energy trucks, has secured $50 million in total funding to expand its operations. The latest funding round brought in $30 million from Nikhil Kamath and Omnitex Industries a strong show of confidence in the company’s mission.
LNG-powered trucks are a major part of what BEM is working on. The goal is pretty clear: lower emissions and offer transport options that don’t add so much to the country’s growing pollution problem.

Right now, BEM has room to make around 10,000 trucks a year, but they haven’t reached that level yet. The new funding should help them step things up and push more blue energy trucks into the market.
Apart from just making more trucks, they also plan to upgrade their technology — especially for reducing fuel use and emissions. For logistics companies, that means vehicles that are both cleaner and cheaper to operate in the long run.
Support From Industry Giants
BEM isn’t going it alone. Companies like Essar and FPT Industrial (part of the Iveco Group) are already on board — not just as investors, but as technology and strategy partners. Their involvement has helped BEM sharpen its focus on high-performance green trucks.
So far, nearly 1,000 Blue Energy trucks have been sold and many are being used by large multinational firms, including some on the Fortune 500 list. These trucks have already clocked over 60 million kilometers — and along the way, helped cut down more than 15,000 tonnes of CO₂ emissions. That’s a decent start for a young company in a tough sector.
Why This Matters for India
India’s transport sector accounts for about 15% of the country’s total carbon emissions. Trucks — especially diesel-powered ones — are a major contributor. If more businesses switch to LNG trucks, the impact on national emissions could be significant.
That’s where BEM comes in. By offering practical, reliable and clean trucks, the company is helping push the industry toward a lower-emission future — one truck at a time.
Investors See the Long Game
Anirudh Bhuwalka, the founder and managing director of BEM, said the fresh capital will speed up the move toward greener freight. He added that the company is focused not just on clean energy but on keeping its trucks affordable and business-friendly.
Investor Nikhil Kamath called scalable green tech “essential” for India’s growing logistics space. And Anshuman Ruia from Essar echoed that view, saying companies like BEM are key to building a cleaner energy economy.
Looking Down the Road
With stronger financial backing and key partnerships in place, Blue Energy Motors seems ready to scale up — and possibly shape the future of trucking in India. The plan is simple: more trucks, less pollution and a cleaner path forward for Indian freight transport.
