Truck rental market stays stable in March despite rising logistics costs

By Amit Jangra | Published Date : April 09, 2026

Truck rental market stayed stable in March 2026, with slight growth on key routes despite rising costs like fuel, tolls, and tyres.

India’s logistics sector stayed mostly stable in March 2026, even when costs were slowly going up. Truck rentals on major routes did not see big changes, but small increase was there. This stability came mainly because of year-end business activity, when many companies move goods before closing accounts.

Freight movement was not very high or very low, it stayed normal. Many transporters said that demand for trucks was okay, not too strong but not weak also. This shows that market is balanced right now.

Some main transport routes actually performed quite well. The Delhi–Kolkata route saw around 10% growth compared to last year. Bengaluru–Mumbai route also increased by around 9%.

Other routes like Delhi–Mumbai, Mumbai–Chennai and Delhi–Chennai also reported near 8% growth. This means goods movement between big cities is still active, which is good sign for logistics sector.

On monthly basis, growth was small. Rentals increased around 1% to 2% only. This is because year-end shipments were already done, so now activity is becoming normal again.

Rising Costs Creating Pressure

Even though truck rentals are stable, operators are facing cost pressure. From April, tyre prices increased by up to 10%. Toll charges also revised, which adds extra burden.

Fuel prices are also uncertain because of global issues. If prices go more high, transport cost will also increase. This can affect small operators a lot, especially those using old trucks and pickups.

One more issue seen in March was drop in LPG tanker movement. Supply was limited, so this segment did not perform like others. It shows that some parts of logistics are still sensitive to supply problems.

Mixed Trends in Vehicle Market

Vehicle sales in March gave mixed signals. Passenger vehicles and two-wheelers saw good growth due to discounts and better demand. Construction vehicles and maxi cab also performed decent.

But agriculture side was weak. Tractor sales and related segments went down, which is normal sometimes due to seasonal changes.

On the other side, electric trucks and other EVs are growing fast. Electric two-wheelers saw big jump, and electric passenger vehicles also increased strongly. Even electric three-wheelers showed good numbers.

This clearly shows that people are slowly shifting towards electric options, mainly because fuel cost is going high.

Overall Outlook Remains Balanced

Looking ahead, April may see some pressure due to rising costs. But overall demand is still there, so market is not weak. If fuel prices stay under control, then trucks, pickups and logistics sector can stay stable.

For now, situation is like “not too fast, not too slow”. Transport business is moving, but with some caution.
