SWITCH Mobility Rolls Out Electric Buses on Mumbai–Pune Route

By Jony Shekhawat | Published Date : April 11, 2026

SWITCH Mobility begins electric intercity operations with Prasanna Purple on the Mumbai–Pune route, marking an early but notable shift towards cleaner long-distance travel solutions.

SWITCH Mobility has started running its electric intercity buses on the Mumbai–Pune route, which is kind of a big move if you look at how things are changing in transport right now. The company handed over 10 EiV12mt buses to Prasanna Purple Mobility Solutions.

The flag-off happened in Pune on April 10, and some government officials were also present there. It was not a very big event maybe, but still an important one for electric mobility.

This is actually the first intercity order SWITCH Mobility has completed for a private operator. And for Prasanna Purple also, this is their first step into electric intercity travel. The total order is 25 Switch Mobility buses, but only 10 are on road for now. Rest will come later, maybe in phases. The project is being done with Vertelo as well, so it’s not just a simple supply deal. Right now it looks small, but these kind of starts sometimes grow later.

Bus Features Look Good on Paper

The EiV12mt bus is built for longer routes, not city runs. It comes with 45 pushback seats, which is decent comfort level for passengers. Range is said to be more than 300 km on one charge, though real-world numbers can be little different, depends on driving and traffic. Fast charging is also there, which is needed for such routes.

There is also some connected tech inside for tracking and monitoring, which operators usually want these days.

Companies Talking About Future Plans

Company side said this is part of a bigger plan to take electric vehicles beyond city use. Routes like Mumbai–Pune are busy and regular, so maybe that’s why they picked this first.
Prasanna Purple also mentioned that they want to shift towards cleaner transport, but obviously, it will take time. One route won’t change everything overnight. SWITCH Mobility already has many electric buses running, around 2,500 in India and globally, they have done quite a lot of kilometres also.

Still Early Days for Electric Intercity Travel

Electric buses inside cities are common now, but intercity is still new and not fully tested everywhere. There will be some challenges, like charging and range, that part is still not very clear.

But yeah, this looks like a start. Not very big, not very fast, but at least the direction seems right. Let’s see how it actually performs on road in the coming months.
