Cargo Matters signs MoU with Andhra Pradesh government to develop a ₹100 crore electric mobility and freight hub in Madanapalle, focusing on EV charging infrastructure and retrofitting solutions for heavy freight vehicles.

Cargo Matters will invest about Rs. 100 crore to build a new electric mobility and freight hub in Madanapalle of Andhra Pradesh. Cargo Matters signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the Government of Andhra Pradesh for the project. This plant will focus on electric vehicle manufacturing support and charging infrastructure for heavy commercial vehicles. The hub will also include a retrofit unit where existing diesel trucks can be converted into electric vehicles.

Cargo Matters has submitted a detailed project report to the Andhra Pradesh Industrial Infrastructure Corporation requesting about 18 acres of industrial land for the project.
The planned complex will have multiple sections. These include a charger manufacturing unit, a retrofitting facility for heavy commercial vehicles, and a research and development centre for testing electric drivetrains and charging systems.

The company has allocated around ₹50 crore specifically for building charging infrastructure. The rest of the investment will support manufacturing equipment, retrofit operations, and the R&D unit.

Focus on Electrifying Freight Transport

Umesh Padala says the project is going to fix a problem in Indias electric mobility sector. The thing is, people are buying cars but big trucks that carry goods are still using diesel. The new place they are making will help companies that own lots of vehicles switch to trucks by changing the old trucks to electric and making more charging points. The company thinks that if they make the infrastructure better it will be easier for people to use electric mini trucks and other clean ways to move things around in the logistics industry so more people will use electric trucks.

Job Creation and Economic Impact

When this project is up and running it will give jobs to around 1,000 people directly. Almost 3,000 people will get jobs indirectly in the area. P. N. Mahesh said that the Andhra Pradesh Sustainable Electric Mobility Policy 4.0 is what this project is about and this policy is really about getting companies that make Electric Vehicles to invest in the state and build roads that are good, for the environment.

Strategic Location for Logistics

Madanapalle is near the borders of Karnataka and Tamil Nadu. Madanapalle is 100 kilometres from Bengaluru and about 250 kilometres from Chennai city and is the best location for logistics companies. That's why the company is looking at Madanapalle for places to import and export their goods. Move freight around Madanapalle.

Pilot Operations Expected Soon

Cargo Matters expects pilot operations at the facility to begin within 12 to 18 months after receiving regulatory approvals. Full commercial operations are targeted within the next two years.

The project marks the company’s first large infrastructure investment beyond its logistics fleet operations. Until now, Cargo Matters has mainly focused on freight services and supply chain management.

With this new hub, the company plans to support the transition toward cleaner freight transport, including the wider use of electric buses, electric trucks, and other forms of electric commercial vehicles across India’s logistics sector.

Q3. Where are electric mini trucks mainly used?

Ans. Electric mini trucks are commonly used for last-mile delivery, urban logistics, small cargo transport, and local distribution work. They are popular among delivery companies, retailers, and small business owners.

Q4. How long does it take to charge electric buses?

Ans. Charging time for electric buses depends on the charger type and battery size. Fast chargers can charge many buses in about 1 to 2 hours, while standard chargers may take several hours for a full charge.
