India Auto Industry Reports Strong February With Higher Production and Sales

SIAM data shows vehicle production, domestic sales and exports rising sharply in February, with two-wheelers leading total industry volumes.


The automobile sector in India was really busy in February. It did a lot better than it did year. The numbers that the SIAM put out show that people in India wanted to buy vehicles and companies sent more vehicles to other countries too.

They made a lot of vehicles in February 2026. A total of 28,64,612 vehicles. This is a lot more than what they made last year which was 23,46,258 vehicles. The India automobile sector also sold vehicles in India. In February they sold 23,01,355 vehicles in the country. In February 2025, the Indian automobile sector sold 17,73,650 vehicles.

The India automobile sector also sent vehicles to other countries. In February the India automobile sector sent 6,08,284 vehicles to countries. This is a lot more, than what the India automobile sector sent in a year which was 4,74,328 vehicles.

When we look at the financial year the industry has been growing steadily so far. From April 2025 to February 2026 the total number of vehicles produced was more than 3.03 crore units. In the period of the previous financial year the total number of vehicles produced was around 2.73 crore units.

The number of vehicles sold in the country during these eleven months was about 2.45 crore vehicles, which is more than the 2.24 crore vehicles sold in the financial year 2025. The industry also exported vehicles. The total number of vehicles exported during this time was over 60 lakh vehicles compared to about 48 lakh vehicles exported in the previous year. The vehicle industry has seen growth in both sales and exports of vehicles with vehicles being produced and sold in large numbers and vehicles being exported to other countries.

Two Wheelers Continue to Dominate Volumes

Two-wheelers are still a part of vehicle production in India. Factories made more than 23 lakh motorcycles and scooters in February 2026. In the same year, in the same month they made around 18.5 lakh units. Motorcycles made up most of these numbers with over 14.7 lakh units made in that month.

Scooter production was eight lakh units. Companies like Hero MotoCorp, Honda Motorcycle and Scooter India TVS Motor Company and Bajaj Auto were among the contributors to the overall numbers.

The export of motorcycles also went up to around 4.22 lakh units in February. This is compared to, about 3.45 lakh units exported a year earlier. Motorcycles are still leading in exports. Two-wheelers are doing well in India. The numbers are looking good for these vehicle makers.

Utility Vehicles Drive Passenger Vehicle Segment

Passenger vehicle output also moved slightly higher during February. Automakers made around 4.43 lakh passenger vehicles in a month. This is more than the 4.04 lakh units they made in February. Utility vehicles were a part of this segment. They manufacture over 2.83 lakh utility vehicles.

Maruti Suzuki made the most utility vehicles. Over one lakh units. Mahindra 3-wheelers got a top position with 58000 units. The passenger vehicles include utility vehicles. Utility vehicles are a type of passenger vehicle. Maruti Suzuki made passenger vehicles, including many utility vehicles.

Tata Motors Passenger Vehicle Volumes Slip

The SIAM report also indicates that Tata Motors saw a drop in passenger vehicle numbers during the current financial year. Production across its passenger vehicle range between April and February stood at around 4.17 lakh units. In the same period last year, the company had produced more than 4.51 lakh vehicles. Domestic sales during the period also declined slightly.

3-wheelers See Sharp Rise in February

3-wheelers posted a noticeable increase during February. Production during the month reached 1,08,154 units compared with about 83,000 units in February last year.
Passenger carrier models formed the majority of the segment’s output. Bajaj Auto remained the leading manufacturer, followed by TVS Motor Company. Exports in the category also increased during the month.

Small Quadricycle Segment Also Grows

The production of quadricycles really went up. This is a jump from 351 units in February 2025. Bajaj Auto is still the company that makes quadricycles. Bajaj Auto keeps on being the manufacturer of quadricycles in this segment.

Overall, the latest data from SIAM shows that the automobile industry in India kept going strong in February. This is because people in India bought cars and the country also sold more cars to other countries.
