Daimler Truck Brings Electric Lowliner To Market

Daimler Truck will launch the Mercedes-Benz eActros Lowliner, an electric truck developed for high-volume transport and mega trailer operations.

Daimler Truck is moving into a part of the market where MAN is already doing business. The company is bringing out the Mercedes-Benz eActros Lowliner, which's an electric truck that is good, for jobs that need a lot of transport work. Daimler Truck is really getting into this area with the Mercedes-Benz eActros Lowliner.

For transport companies working in automotive logistics, Lowliner trucks are an important option. They are built differently from regular tractor units and can be used with mega trailers that offer more loading space inside.

The eActros Lowliner comes with a fifth-wheel height of 950 mm. Because of this, it can work with mega trailers that have an internal loading height of three metres. That extra height helps transport companies move more goods in a single trip. In automotive logistics, this matters a lot because mega trailers can carry up to 99 lattice boxes on three levels. A standard semi-trailer can carry only 66 of these boxes. This is one reason why electric trucks in the Lowliner segment have started getting attention from manufacturers.

Daimler Truck To Start Orders In 2026

The new model will be shown to the public at IAA Transportation in Hanover this September. People who want to buy it can place their orders starting from the quarter of 2026. They are going to make the model at the Wörth am Rhein plant and the first ones will be ready during the second quarter of 2027.

Achim Puchert, the CEO of Mercedes-Benz Trucks, talked about the vehicle. He said it is based on the eActros 600 platform. The company made it for people who transport things using trailers. Achim Puchert believes that when the new model is released customers will have choices for battery- long-haul trucks. The Mercedes-Benz Trucks company is going to give customers some options when the new model comes out. This new model is a battery- long-haul truck and it is going to be a great option for customers who want a battery-electric long-haul truck.

Battery Choices And Payload Capacity

The eActros 400 Lowliner gets two battery packs. Each pack has a capacity of 207 kWh, taking the total installed capacity to 414 kWh. The eActros 600 Lowliner comes with three battery packs and reaches 621 kWh.

There is also a difference in payload. Since the eActros 400 carries fewer batteries, it can handle more cargo. Its payload goes up to 24 tonnes. The eActros 600 Lowliner can carry a lot of weight it can carry up to 21 tonnes. The eActros 600 Lowliner with a battery is expected to go as far as the standard eActros 600 the eActros 600 can travel, around 500 kilometres when everything is just right.

Fast Charging Support Included

The trucks have a plug on the left side that lets them charge really fast up to 400 kW. This is called a CCS2 charging socket. When the trucks are almost empty they can fill up to three-quarters full in around 46 minutes. This is for the trucks that have two batteries. The trucks that have three batteries take a bit longer around 70 minutes to charge from 10 to 80%. The trucks can charge at this speed because of the CCS2 charging socket.

Daimler commercial vehicles also plans to add support for Megawatt Charging System technology in the future. Buyers will be able to order an additional MCS charging socket when the option becomes available.
