Blue Energy Motors Backs LNG and Electric Trucks for India
By Jony Shekhawat | Published Date : December 19, 2025
Blue Energy Motors believes LNG can act as a practical bridge fuel while electric trucks take time to scale across India.
Decarbonising road logistics in India will not happen in one step. It will be a dual journey where LNG helps in the short term, while electric truck adoption grows slowly over time. This is what Anand Mimani, CEO – EV & New Energy Business at Blue Energy Motors, believes.

Blue Energy Motors is a homegrown truck startup that is working on both LNG trucks and electric truck technology. The company feels India needs both fuel options to reduce emissions from trucks.
“If India has to decarbonise road logistics, EVs and LNG are the two ways forward,” Mimani said. According to him, LNG can act as a bridge fuel until electric trucks become practical for all uses.
Why LNG Works for Long Routes
The company says LNG trucks are best for long-haul movement. Compared to CNG, LNG gives much higher range. With dual cylinders, an LNG truck can run close to 2,000 km on a single fill.
This makes LNG suitable for heavy commercial vehicles like 18-wheeler trucks, 16-wheeler trucks, 14-wheeler truck and even 12-wheeler trucks used in logistics and freight movement. Today, Blue Energy Motors claims it holds over 50 per cent market share in India’s LNG truck segment.
Manufacturing and Sales Plans
Blue Energy Motors has its manufacturing plant in Maharashtra. The plant can make up to 10,000 trucks every year. At present, utilisation is around 10–12 per cent, but the company expects this to reach 20 per cent by the fourth quarter.
By the end of this financial year, the company expects LNG trucks and electric truck sales to be almost equal, showing growing interest in cleaner trucks.
Entry Into Electric Truck Segment
On the EV side, the company recently launched India’s first heavy-duty electric truck with battery swapping and an energy-as-a-service model. This helps reduce upfront cost and battery-related worries.
Blue Energy Motors has also signed an MoU with the Maharashtra government to set up a new facility under the Davos agreement. The planned investment of about ₹13,500 crore will support battery pack manufacturing and possibly a new EV-focused plant.
Orders, Future Goals and Growth
So far, the company has deployed over 50 electric trucks. It has orders for around 200 trucks to be delivered in the fourth quarter, mainly from B2B customers. Looking ahead, Blue Energy plans to launch two new products across LNG and electric platforms in 2026. The company is targeting total sales of 30,000 trucks over the next five years.
The startup is supported by investors such as Nikhil Kamath, Iveco Group and Omnitex Industries. So far, it has raised nearly ₹2,450 crore, which is helping the company expand its LNG trucks and electric truck business across India. It is aiming for ₹500 crore revenue this year, driven mainly by its growing LNG truck business.

Frequently Asked Questions on Commercial Vehicles
Q1. What are LNG trucks and how do they work?
Ans. LNG trucks run on liquefied natural gas stored at very low temperatures, allowing higher fuel density and longer driving range compared to CNG trucks.
Q2. Are LNG trucks suitable for long-distance transport?
Ans. Yes, LNG trucks are ideal for long-haul routes because they offer higher range, making them suitable for 18-wheeler truck and other heavy-duty trucks.
Q3. Do LNG trucks reduce emissions compared to diesel trucks?
Ans. LNG trucks produce lower carbon emissions, less noise, and fewer particulates than traditional diesel trucks, making them a cleaner option.
Q4. Is LNG fuel cheaper than diesel for trucks?
Ans. In many cases, LNG fuel can lower running costs due to better fuel efficiency and stable pricing, improving overall operating economics for fleet owners.
