ASG Eye Hospital Provides Free Eye Care Support to Commercial Drivers

Free eye checkups and cataract surgeries aim to improve safety for commercial drivers on Indian roads.


ASG Eye Hospital has started a special eye care drive for commercial truck drivers across India. This initiative is linked with National Road Safety Week and will run till February 11 at more than 180 ASG centres nationwide.

Commercial drivers spend most of their time on roads, whether driving a small delivery vehicle or a long-distance truck. Due to long hours, dust, night driving and fatigue, eye problems are common but often ignored. This program aims to address that issue at the right time.

Under this initiative, commercial drivers can get free eye checkups and doctor consultations. If a cataract is detected and surgery is needed, ASG Eye Hospital will provide the surgery at no cost.

The hospital has planned to offer up to 1,000 free cataract surgeries during this period. The number may increase if more drivers register and a medical need is found.

Who Can Benefit From This Program

The program mainly covers drivers of three-wheelers and four-wheelers, especially those working with state transport and city transport services. Private platform drivers and commercial operators are also eligible.

Drivers of 18-wheeler trucks often drive across states with limited rest. Many avoid health checkups due to work pressure. This initiative gives them a chance to get tested without worrying about cost.

Supporting Road Safety Campaign

The government started the Sadak Suraksha Abhiyan. This campaign took target tpo make roads safer by awaring users and adding some facilities. As per old records, 80,000 persons die annually in road accidents. Most of the accidents are due to heavy-duty trucks like 12-wheeler dumpers that run most of the time on roads.

Doctors Highlight Role of Vision in Driving

Dr. Vikas Jain are Group COO of ASG Eye Hospital. Dr. Vikas announced that clear eyesight is one of the most important factors for safe driving. He added that this initiative is meant to support drivers who keep the transport system running every day.

Dr. Himanshu Shekhar, Group Chief Strategy and Clinical Officer, explained that a driver’s reaction time depends heavily on vision and depth perception. He said the program focuses not just on testing but also on proper treatment like cataract surgery when required.

Drivers operating 14-wheeler trucks often work during early morning or night hours, where even small vision issues can become dangerous.

Wide Reach Across India

ASG Eye Hospital has tied up with private cab aggregator platforms to reach more drivers easily. The hospital network has more than 180 hospitals and around 200 vision centres spread across over 95 cities in India, making eye care easier to access for drivers almost everywhere.

With electric truck fleets now being used more in city delivery work, driver health and safety are becoming more important than before.
