Commercial vehicles like trucks, mini trucks, pickups and buses are in high demand for delivery and business needs, especially in India’s growing logistics market.

If you travel on highways, you must know this. From 1 April 2026, all toll plazas in India will stop accepting cash. No more cash payment. Only FASTag or UPI will work. This was told by the Road Transport Ministry secretary V. Umashankar, in an interview. He said clearly, cash transaction at toll plazas will be completely banned.

The government wants a No-Stop system on highways. There are 3 main reasons:
Traffic jam problem will reduce. People don’t need to stand in long lines for cash and receipts.
Fuel and time saving.
Vehicles won’t stop and start again and again.
More transparency.
Digital payments will reduce fraud and wrong toll collection.
Trial Running at 25 Toll Plazas
Before making the rule final, the government is testing it at 25 toll plazas. This is a pilot project for the cashless No-Stop system. Official notification is not out yet. But the sign is clear — from 1 April, it will apply across India.
How Will Toll Payment Happen?
Once the rule starts, you will have only two options:

  • FASTag
  • UPI payment

Cash will not be accepted. This is the first step towards the Multi-Lane Free Flow (MLFF) system. In future, the government plans to remove physical barriers at toll gates. Cameras and sensors will automatically deduct toll.
What is FASTag and How It Works?
FASTag is a small sticker with an RFID chip. You stick it on your vehicle’s windshield. It is linked to your bank account or wallet. When you pass a toll plaza, the amount gets deducted automatically. No need to stop.
FASTag Annual Pass: ₹3000 for One Year
The government started FASTag Annual Pass from 15 August 2025. For ₹3000 recharge, you can get 200 trips in a year. Each toll crossing counts as one trip. A round-trip is counted as two.
This Fastag pass will work at all 1057 National Highway toll plazas of India. But 78 toll plazas are in Andhra Pradesh, which does not work for state highways or local tolls.
National Expressways Update
India has 11 National Expressways. Out of them, 8 are running and 3 are under construction. Some famous expressways are:

  • Delhi–Mumbai
  • Delhi–Meerut
  • Delhi–Amritsar–Katra
  • Bengaluru–Chennai
  • Ahmedabad–Vadodara
