The workshops were held in partnership with Delhi Traffic Police and Maruti Suzuki during National Road Safety Month in New Delhi.
The Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM) organised road safety refresher workshops for commercial vehicle and three-wheeler drivers in New Delhi during National Road Safety Month. This programme was done to remind drivers about safe driving habits, especially those who daily drive trucks and electric 3-wheelers on busy city roads.
The workshops were held under SIAM’s ‘सुरक्षित सफर (Safe Journey)’ initiative. Delhi Traffic Police and Maruti Suzuki India Ltd supported the programme. Many SIAM member companies also contributed through CSR, showing that the auto industry is trying to take responsibility beyond just selling vehicles.

Two separate sessions were organized at Institute of Driving Training & Research (IDTR) centres in Delhi. The first workshop was for commercial vehicle drivers and was set on January 12, 2026, at IDTR Loni/Burari. Drivers operating trucks, mini trucks, pickup trucks and electric trucks attended this session.
The second workshop was specially planned for three-wheeler drivers. This session was conducted on January 15, 2026, at IDTR Sarai Kale Khan. Overall, more than 200 drivers took part in both sessions.
Health Check-ups for Drivers
Apart from training, the organisers also focused on drivers’ health. Many drivers spend long hours on the road, which directly affects their safety. Health screenings were conducted, including blood pressure, blood sugar and eye tests.
Drivers who needed vision correction were given free eyewear. This support was provided with help from Eicher Group Foundation and Dr. Shroff’s Charity Eye Hospital. For drivers of trucks and electric trucks, clear eyesight is very important, especially during night driving and long routes.
Training Session on Road Safety
The training sessions covered traffic rules, defensive driving and responsible behaviour on roads. Faculty members from IDTR and officers from Delhi Traffic Police conducted the sessions in a simple and interactive way. Real road situations were discussed, which drivers of mini trucks, pickup trucks and electric 3-wheelers face daily in Delhi traffic.
Senior Officials Present
Senior Delhi Traffic Police officials like Dheeraj Narang, ACP Praveen Kumar, ACP Kuldeep Singh Tomar and Inspector Manju Singh, were present at the events. They were joined by Vinay Dhingra, Vice President, SAFE and Senior Director at Honda Motorcycle & Scooters India Ltd, and Prashant K Banerjee, Executive Director of SIAM.
Industry Focus on Road Safety
Prashant K Banerjee said that road safety cannot improve without regular awareness among drivers. He added that SIAM will continue working with member companies and enforcement authorities to promote safer driving through the ‘सुरक्षित सफर’ initiative.
Vinay Dhingra said drivers are the backbone of the country’s economy, whether they are driving heavy trucks or electric 3-wheelers. According to him, such training programmes help drivers understand traffic rules better and slowly build a strong road safety culture.
