Freight movement remains steady across key routes in February as logistics demand stays cautious, while electric vehicle growth continues to show strong yearly momentum.

India’s logistics sector saw limited movement in February 2026 as truck rentals stayed mostly steady across key transport corridors. The latest mobility report released by Shriram Finance Limited showed that freight rates did not change much on a month-on-month basis.

The operators using heavy trucks like 14-wheeler and 22-chakka trucks informed that goods movement was stable but not as per rental rates.

Monthly activity was the same as before. Some big routes had more movement than last year. The Delhi–Mumbai–Delhi route had more things being transported it went up by 8%.
The Delhi–Kolkata–Delhi and Mumbai–Chennai–Mumbai routes also had more things being transported each of them went up by 6% from the time last year. The Bengaluru–Mumbai–Bengaluru route had more movement it went up by 5%. The Guwahati–Mumbai–Guwahati route had some movement too, it went up by about 4%. People who run 12-tyre Tata trucks were using these long routes.

Vehicle Sales Slow Down During February

Vehicle sales fell in areas from January to February. The Passenger vehicle sales reduced by 28% and the two-wheeler sales were reduced by 8%. Buyers are waiting for festival offers to buy vehicles at some good prices on Gudi Padwa and Ugadi. Vehicle sales are usually affected by these festivals. The sales will likely pick up in March. People are holding off on buying vehicles. The festive season is a time for vehicle sales. Dealers expect demand to improve once promotional schemes begin.

Bus and Mobility Segments Show Strength

Not every category saw weak demand. Bus sales increased by 34% during the month. Maxi cab sales also rose by 21% which points to steady demand in passenger mobility and institutional transport.

Every year, the numbers were stronger. Goods carrier sales and three-wheeler cargo vehicle sales each grew by 32%. Commercial tractor sales rose by 33%, and maxi cab sales by 35%. Smaller vehicles such as pickup trucks also continued to see usage in regional transport and local distribution networks.

Electric Vehicle Segment Posts Strong Yearly Growth

The electric mobility segment presented a mixed trend. EV sales fell slightly on a month-on-month basis but growth remained strong when compared with last year. Electric two-wheelers grew by 66% while electric three-wheelers recorded a sharp jump of 246%. Electric passenger cars also rose by 116% year-on-year. In cargo transport the use of the electric truck category is also slowly increasing as companies expand last-mile delivery fleets in urban areas.

Logistics Indicators Show Temporary Slowdown

Other logistics indicators also pointed to softer activity during February. FASTag transaction volume dropped by 26.1% while transaction value declined by 25.1% during the month.
Fuel consumption numbers also slipped slightly. Both petrol and diesel demand fell by around 4% which reflects the slower movement of freight across several trade routes.

Rabi Harvest May Boost Truck Demand in March

The bulletin suggests that logistics demand could improve in the coming weeks. The arrival of the Rabi harvest season is expected to increase the movement of agricultural produce across states.

This seasonal activity may push demand for transport vehicles including medium and heavy trucks. The upcoming Kharif sowing season could also support demand for farm equipment and rural transport services. However the report warns that rising fuel prices could still put pressure on freight margins.

The Shriram Mobility Bulletin is a monthly industry report published by Shriram Finance Limited. The company is one of India’s major retail asset financing NBFCs with assets under management of more than Rs 2.91 trillion. The report tracks logistics and automobile sector trends using data collected from the company’s nationwide network of fleet owners and vehicle dealers.
