Gurugram Getting Ready for Electric Buses, First Depot Likely by May

Gurugram is preparing to introduce a large fleet of electric buses, while the city’s first modern bus depot in Sector-48 is expected to be completed by May to support the upcoming public transport expansion.
Gurugram is expected to bring in a large number of electric buses in the coming months. Officials say preparations are moving faster now because the city may receive nearly 200 buses soon. The idea is simple — have the depot and all facilities ready before the buses start running on city routes.

Construction of the Sector-48 depot started some time back and 70% of the work is already finished. The remaining part mainly includes final structure work and installing some operational systems. Over the last few weeks, the pace has increased because the new buses could arrive around April.
Authorities want the depot ready before that. Once the buses reach the city, they can begin service without waiting. The place will also have parking spaces for buses and sections where routine maintenance and inspections can be done.
Charging Setup Being Put in Place
At the same time, the charging infrastructure is also being installed at the depot. Officials say around 25 vehicles will be able to charge there together. Most of the upcoming fleet is expected to include 40-seater buses, so the equipment is being installed keeping that in mind. High-capacity charging units are being used so the vehicles can charge faster and return to the road in less time.
Authorities also say the system has been planned in a flexible way. If the city adds more electric buses later, extra charging points can be installed without major changes.
Sector-10 Depot Also Getting Charging Facility
Apart from the Sector-48 project, a charging facility has also been prepared at the bus depot in Sector-10. Officials say having charging systems at two locations will make things easier once the electric fleet arrives. It will help distribute operations instead of putting all the pressure on one depot.
There is also a plan to build a proper bus terminal at the Sector-10 depot. Consultants are currently working on the design so that passengers can get better waiting areas and improved travel facilities in the future.
Another Bus Sub-Depot Planned
City authorities are also thinking about the future as Gurugram continues to grow quickly. A new bus sub-depot is being planned in Sector-103. The proposed project may cover around seven acres of land.
