Scania will invest €70 million in its Angers facility in France as the company prepares the site for future electric truck production and expands its role in Europe’s shift towards cleaner transport.

Scania trucks are prepared its Angers facility in France for the next phase of truck manufacturing. The company has announced an investment of 70 million euros that will go into expanding the plant and updating parts of the production setup.

The goal is simple. Scania wants the site to be ready for electric truck production as demand for cleaner transport grows across Europe.

The Angers plant has been part of Scania’s production network for more than three decades. Trucks assembled here are supplied to customers in France as well as other European markets.

Now the facility is set for another upgrade. Scania says that the investment will help make assembly operations and support making electric vehicles in the future. The company thinks that this project is a way to make its industrial presence in France stronger.

This news comes when France is trying to get more people to invest in mobility and things that are related to it. Scania Commercial Vehicles is doing this to help with electric vehicle manufacturing and to modernise its assembly operations in France.

Production Details Are Still Not Final

One thing Scania has not confirmed is how many electric trucks the plant will eventually build. The company has also remained quiet on exact production timelines and output targets. Still, early indications suggest the factory could use a flexible manufacturing setup where electric trucks and conventional trucks are assembled on the same line. That would give the company room to adjust production according to market demand rather than relying on separate facilities.

Company Sees Flexibility As A Key Advantage

Petrus Sundvall, President of Scania Production Angers, said the investment is aimed at protecting the long-term future of the site. According to him, the truck market does not stand still. Customer requirements change, volumes change and manufacturers have to be ready for that. The man in charge said that the new and improved facility will be able to put together trucks that run on engines and electric trucks.

Scania CEO Christian Levin also said that the move to vehicles is not just about making the vehicles. He said that things like places to charge the vehicles getting power from sources and the government making rules to help will all be important, for companies that move things from one place to another to start using electric vehicles.
Levin said cooperation across the wider transport sector will be important if Europe wants to accelerate the transition.

New Electric CrewCab Unveiled

Along with the investment announcement, Scania introduced a new battery-electric CrewCab called the CP31L. The vehicle has been developed mainly for emergency service operations. It uses a 4×2 axle configuration and comes with an installed battery capacity of 356 kWh.

Scania says this design is flexible, for truck body types. This means customers can change the vehicle to fit their needs. The company is launching the CP31L. They also plan to make upgrades in France. This is part of Scania's focus on trucks and new transport technologies. Scania wants to keep improving trucks and future transport technologies.
