Mahindra Treo Now Available for Self-Drive Rentals in Sri Lanka

By | Published Date : October 28, 2025

Mahindra Treo electric three-wheelers are now available for self-drive rentals in Sri Lanka, offering tourists a quiet, eco-friendly and affordable way to explore.

If you are in Sri Lanka, you might notice something new quietly buzzing along the streets. Anand Mahindra mentioned that the Mahindra Treo, an electric three-wheeler, is now up for self-drive rentals. It may seem like a small change, but for anyone wandering towns or beaches, it actually makes getting around a lot easier — and a bit gentler on the environment too.

Through partnerships with Tuk Tuk Rental and Evolution Auto, Mahindra brings a fresh option to roads once filled with noisy petrol tuk-tuks. These electric 3 wheelers are surprisingly easy to drive, affordable to run and honestly, a nice change from the usual vehicles buzzing around the island.

The Mahindra Treo is electric, so it doesn’t need petrol or diesel. It’s also automatic, which means there’s no gear shifting — just drive and go. That alone makes it easier for tourists who may not be used to driving manual 3 wheelers.

The daily rate for a Mahindra Treo starts at about $18 (₹1588). A normal diesel or CNG tuk-tuk costs around $15 (₹1324), though those come with manual gear systems. The small difference in price gives drivers a much smoother, quieter ride.

Anyone with an International Driver’s Permit can rent one. Tuk Tuk Rental even helps visitors get their local permit sorted, so the whole process is quick. Once that’s done, tourists are free to explore Sri Lanka’s towns, beaches and hill roads at their own pace.

What’s Inside the Treo

The Treo comes with an 8 kW electric motor and a 7.4 kWh battery, which can take you around 110 to 120 km on a single charge. It doesn’t take long to charge — under four hours — and it can reach about 55 km/h, which is just right for zipping around city streets without feeling rushed.

Step inside and you’ll notice it feels surprisingly roomy. There’s a digital display, comfortable seats and basic safety features like doors and rear crash protection. The suspension smooths out bumps, making even uneven roads feel easy. In India, Mahindra has already sold over 1.5 lakh Treos. The model even took part in the Treo Azaadi Rally, which celebrated owners across the country.

Crossing Borders

This launch marks Treo's expansion beyond India, tapping into Sri Lanka’s growing interest in clean transportation. More than just a rental option, the Treo represents a small step toward greener tourism. Quiet, efficient and surprisingly practical, it’s redefining what electric three-wheelers can offer — one gentle ride at a time.
