Madhya Pradesh First to Roll Out EV Policy on World EV Day 2025

By Amit Jangra | Published Date : September 09, 2025

Madhya Pradesh leads India by launching its first official EV policy, aiming to boost electric 3-wheelers, trucks and small commercial vehicles across key cities.

In a major move toward cleaner transport, Madhya Pradesh has become the first state in India to officially launch an electric vehicle (EV) policy. Chief Minister Mohan Yadav announced the policy just before World EV Day, marking a big step forward in India’s green mobility journey.

Sure, the policy aims to clean up the air — but there’s more to it. The state also wants to get more electric 3-wheelers, e-rickshaws, small cargo EVs and electric trucks into everyday use, helping folks cut fuel costs and find stable jobs in the process.

The government has made it clear: they want to support people who choose electric. That means:

  • No road tax or registration fee for electric vehicle buyers
  • Cash support for retrofitting old vehicles with EV kits
  • Up to ₹10 lakh for those who set up charging stations
  • Up to ₹5 lakh for battery swapping stations

They’re even offering ₹2 crore to support research, training and startup innovation in the EV space.

A special Electric Vehicle Promotion Board will also be formed to coordinate between departments and help sort out any issues faced by EV users or manufacturers.

Big Goals by 2030

The state isn’t just talking—it’s setting goals. By 2030, it wants:

  • 80% of all 3-wheelers to be electric
  • 40% of two-wheelers to go electric
  • 15% of private cars running on electricity
  • 40% of buses to be electric

That’s a strong focus on commercial use, where vehicles like electric mini trucks and loading autos are used every day for goods and people transport.

EV Cities and Job Creation

To make all of this happen, Madhya Pradesh will turn cities like Bhopal, Indore, Gwalior, Jabalpur and Ujjain into EV model hubs. These cities will get more charging points, better roads for EVs and training centers for mechanics and engineers.

Courses focused on electric mobility will also be introduced in ITIs and engineering colleges so that the next generation can build and maintain EVs.

MP Wants to Be India’s EV Hub

The state already has strong industries and supply chains. With the new policy, it plans to attract battery makers, EV part suppliers and assembly units. And with recent lithium finds in India, battery production could soon shift locally—something that will help reduce import costs and make EVs more affordable.

Why It Matters

In Madhya Pradesh, a lot of folks still depend on auto-rickshaws, small trucks and light commercial vehicles just to get by. For them, switching to electric isn’t just about going green — it’s about saving money on fuel, cutting repair costs and breathing a bit easier in the cities.

“This is more than a tech update,” said Chief Minister Yadav. “It’s something that can genuinely make people’s lives better.”

Madhya Pradesh isn’t just talking about EVs — it’s jumping in early and trying to do things differently.
