According to Minister Gadkari, just like car owners can now buy a yearly FASTag for ₹3,000, the same kind of pass will soon be available for state transport buses and private commercial vehicles. This move is aimed at reducing the hassle of frequent toll payments and saving time during long-distance travel.

The Ministry of Road Transport and Highways is currently doing a detailed study to decide how the annual FASTag charges should be applied for different types of commercial vehicles. Since buses and cabs make far more trips than private cars, the pricing structure will be made accordingly.

20 Lakh Private Buses to Get Big Relief

India depends heavily on private buses for public transport. Out of all the buses in the country, nearly 92% (around 20 lakh buses) are privately owned. Every day, almost 40 crore people travel by bus and out of these, 32 crore rely on private buses. The new annual FASTag pass will bring major savings and convenience for bus operators across the country.

Nitin Gadkari mentioned that the government plans to offer cheaper land near national highways to private bus owner groups. If they team up — kind of like Farmer Producer Organizations — they’ll be able to use that space for building rest stops, parking areas, toilets, even small food courts. It's expected to make long-distance travel a bit more comfortable, not just for passengers, but for the drivers too.
