India’s Ministry of Road Transport and Highways is preparing to make FASTag a multi-purpose payment tool. Very soon, FASTag will not be limited only to toll plazas. People will be able to use it for parking, petrol, EV charging, food and other travel services. A six-month trial of this system has already been completed and officials say the results were successful.
This move will help drivers of trucks, mini trucks, electric mini trucks, pickups, buses and electric buses to make quick payments without cash during travel.
FASTag to Work Like a Digital Wallet
According to officials, FASTag can now work like a wallet. Users will not need to carry cash or multiple payment apps. This system will reduce chances of digital fraud because the amount is directly deducted from the FASTag account. If any fraud happens, the loss will be limited and easier to track.
The aim is simple — one tag, many payments, smoother journey for all vehicles including commercial truck and passenger buses.
Where FASTag Can Be Used
Meetings have already been held with fintech companies, banks, payment service providers and toll operators. They agreed to allow FASTag payment for these services:
- Toll plazas
- Petrol pumps
- EV charging stations
- Food outlets on highways
- Vehicle maintenance services
- City entry charges
- Other travel-related facilities
This will benefit long-route trucks and delivery mini truck operators who stop multiple times during trips.
FASTag Parking Payment at New Delhi Railway Station
FASTag parking payment will soon start at New Delhi Railway Station. North Railway officials said a new policy has been prepared to reduce traffic jams and parking disputes. Once implemented, parking fees will be deducted automatically through FASTag at entry and exit points.
Officials estimate nearly 80% of vehicles only come for drop or pick-up and leave quickly. Automatic deduction will end arguments between contractors and vehicle owners, including taxi drivers, bus operators and pickup users.
Ex-Army Marshals for Better Safety
For the first time, ex-army personnel will be deployed as marshals for parking and traffic management at the station. This will help control misbehavior complaints by private guards. Their training and experience will also improve general security and help prevent unwanted activities.
This change will make parking smoother for buses and private vehicles.
New Parking Policy and Safety Focus
The tender process for parking management is complete, and the new company will take charge from 28 December. Within one month, all safety, vehicle management and passenger facility rules must be implemented.
Special pathways are also being created near Ajmeri Gate to help passengers move easily with luggage toward security checks and exits.
