Belrise Industries And Plasan Sasa Join Hands For Electric Military Vehicle Platforms In India

By Jony Shekhawat | Published Date : December 23, 2025

India defence sector moves towards electric platforms under the Make in India push.

Belrise Industries, an Indian automotive company, has teamed up with Israeli defence firm Plasan Sasa to develop electric platform systems for the armed forces. The partnership was announced on December 22, 2025, and comes under the Make in India programme, with a clear focus on electric mission platforms.

This tie-up matters because India’s defence sector is slowly looking beyond only diesel vehicles. Right now, most military movement still depends on diesel trucks and heavy trucks, but things are changing. There is growing interest in electric trucks and new electric platforms, mainly for support duties and special mission use. The aim is to reduce emissions, improve efficiency and bring smarter technology into defence mobility, step by step.

The collaboration will mainly work on the ATEMM system, short for All-Terrain Electric Mission Module. This is a self-propelled electric platform designed for military use. It can carry heavy payloads, move easily on rough terrain and use energy more efficiently than traditional systems.

Belrise Industries will focus on manufacturing and adapting the platform for Indian conditions. Plasan Sasa will support the project with its experience in vehicle survivability, armour, and protection systems. Together, they aim to build reliable electric platforms that can support different military operations.

Such electric platforms can also support future electric trucks and heavy trucks used by defence forces, including logistics vehicles and special-purpose military trucks.

Make In India And Local Manufacturing

The partnership fits well with India’s Make in India and Atmanirbhar Bharat policies. As part of the agreement, local production and technology transfer are planned. This means key components and systems will be made in India, helping build domestic capability in defence manufacturing.

Belrise Industries already has a strong presence with 20 manufacturing plants across India. The company makes chassis parts and other automotive systems, which are also used in mini trucks and heavy trucks across different sectors.

Global Opportunity For Indian Manufacturing

Apart from serving Indian defence needs, Belrise will also become part of Plasan’s global supply chain. This allows Plasan to manufacture some of its systems in India for export markets. It is expected to create new opportunities for Indian suppliers and engineers working on electric trucks and advanced vehicle platforms.

Mr Swastid Badve, Chief of Staff at Belrise, said the partnership will combine Indian manufacturing strength with global defence technology. Mr Gilad Ariav from Plasan added that the collaboration will support Indian military needs while strengthening Plasan’s global production network.

Growing Role Of Electric Vehicles In Defence

While Ashok Leyland military trucks and other conventional trucks remain key for armed forces, the future may see more electric trucks and hybrid platforms in support roles. Projects like this show how India is slowly preparing for next-generation mobility in defence.

With defence forces worldwide exploring electric trucks, heavy trucks, and smart platforms, this partnership could be a step forward for India in electric military mobility and advanced vehicle systems.
