Commercial Vehicle Retail Sales Jump 15 percent YoY in April, MCV Segment Takes the Lead

By Amit Jangra | Published Date : May 06, 2026

Commercial vehicle sales grew 15% in April 2026, led by MCV segment, with strong rural demand and steady support from logistics and infrastructure activity.

Commercial vehicle retail sales saw a good jump in April 2026. As per Federation of Automobile Dealers Associations (FADA), total sales reached around 99,339 units, which is about 15% higher compared to last year same time. This is also the highest April performance for this segment till now.

Even though numbers look strong, on month basis sales slightly dropped by around 3%. This is not surprising because after financial year end, demand usually slows down a bit. Still overall mood in market looks positive.

The main push in growth came from medium commercial vehicles. MCV segment showed strong rise of more than 27%, which is quite big jump. Other segments also supported this trend. Light commercial vehicles, including many mini trucks and pickups, grew by around 17%, while heavy vehicles like big trucks saw growth of about 8%.

This clearly shows that demand is coming from different sides, not just one segment. Movement of goods and logistics activities are picking up slowly.

Rural Demand Showing Better Growth

One interesting thing is rural market is growing faster than urban areas. Rural sales increased by more than 20%, while urban growth was around 10%. This shows that logistics and transport activities are now increasing even outside big cities.

Use of commercial vehicles like buses and small transport vehicles is also increasing in these regions. This change is important for long term growth of the sector.

Fuel Trend and Market Situation

Diesel still remains the main fuel in this segment with more than 82% share. After that CNG and LPG come with around 12%. Petrol and electric vehicles are still very small part, though EV share is slowly increasing.

There are few reasons behind this growth. Infrastructure work, better goods movement and replacement demand for school buses are helping sales. Also small fleet owners are getting more confidence now.

Challenges Still There

Even with good growth, some issues are still there in market. Dealers are saying that finance approval is taking more time sometimes. Also some vehicle models are not easily available due to supply problems.

Fuel prices and global situation is also something industry is watching closely. If these things become unstable, it can affect demand in coming months.

Overall, April looks strong for commercial vehicles and if things stay stable, coming months can also be good for the industry.
