Vertis Infrastructure launched India’s first Truck-Mounted Attenuator to improve safety for highway workers and drivers in busy construction zones.
Road safety is a big concern in India, specially on highways where construction work is going on. To improve this situation, Vertis Infrastructure has launched India’s first Truck-Mounted Attenuator (TMA). The launch event took place at the Ador Campus in Pune and was attended by officials from NHAI, industry people and road safety experts.
This safety system is made to protect highway workers and drivers in active work zones. Such technology is already common in the US and Europe and now it is slowly coming to Indian roads.

Highway construction areas are very risky places. Vehicles move at high speed and workers are standing close to traffic. Many times there are not enough barriers, which increases danger. Because of this, accidents happen very easily.
The Truck-Mounted Attenuator works as a safety shield. It is fixed on service trucks working in high-traffic areas. If any vehicle hits from behind, the TMA absorbs the impact and slows down the vehicle step by step. This helps in reducing serious injuries and saving lives.
How the TMA System Helps
The main job of the TMA is to act like a crash cushion. It handles sudden impact and controls the damage. This system has been used on Indian roads since 2021 in some form and it has helped in preventing more than 100 deaths.
For trucks working in construction zones, this technology adds an extra layer of safety. As traffic increases and even electric trucks start coming on highways, such safety tools become more important.
What Officials Shared at the Launch
At the event, Ankit Yadav from NHAI spoke about their aim to build highways with zero fatalities. He said safety technology like truck-mounted attenuators is very important to protect workers on national highways.
Zafar, Joint CEO of Vertis Infrastructure, said that the main goal of this project is to save lives of workers who work in dangerous road conditions daily. He also shared that the system was developed after studying Indian traffic and road challenges.
Deployment Plan and Next Steps
Under this project, 20 TMA units are ready. During the launch, 8 units were inaugurated and the remaining 12 units will be delivered within 10 days. The event also showed a live working demo of the TMA system.
Officials also discussed how this technology can be used on more highway projects in the future. This step shows India is slowly adopting global safety standards for trucks, highways and construction zones.
