Petrol Prices Increased by Government Oil Companies from March 20

By Amit Jangra | Published Date : March 21, 2026

Government oil companies increased premium petrol prices from March 20, 2026. Normal petrol unchanged. Global crude rise and Middle East tensions caused the hike.

India’s government oil companies have increased the price of premium petrol from March 20, 2026. This change is made by companies like Indian Oil, BPCL and HPCL. The price has gone up by around ₹2 to ₹2.35 per litre, which is not very small for daily users.

But one important thing is that this increase is only for premium petrol. Normal petrol price is still same, so many people will not feel big difference right now.

The price hike is only for high-quality petrol like XP95, Speed and Power variants. These fuels are mostly used in modern cars and bikes for better performance.

Now premium petrol price is about ₹113.77 per litre. Before it was near ₹111. So yes, price went up a bit.

People using normal petrol dont need to worry much, but those using premium fuel will feel more cost.

Reason Behind Price Increase

The price of petrol went up mainly because oil prices in world market increased. In March 2026, crude oil was around $102 to $103 per barrel.

This happened because of tensions in Middle East region. There were conflicts and supply problems, specially near important oil routes. India depends a lot on imported oil, almost 85 to 90 percent, so any global change affects prices here also.

Earlier also LPG gas prices were increased this month, so this is not the first change people are seeing.

Impact on Market and Companies

After this decision, shares of these oil companies increased slightly. It shows that investors are feeling bit more confident now.

These companies were facing losses because they were not increasing prices even when crude oil was getting expensive. So this step may help them manage some pressure.
Still, diesel prices are same for now, which is important for transport like trucks, mini trucks and buses. If diesel price goes up later, then cost of goods and travel can also

increase. Even industries like trucks, pickups and buses sector can feel impact if fuel prices keep rising.

What Can Happen Next

Experts believe that future price changes will depend on global situation. If crude oil price stays high, then regular petrol and diesel prices may also increase.

But if situation becomes stable, then prices may not rise much. For now, only premium fuel users are affected and others can continue without much change.

Overall, this price hike is small but it shows how global events can affect daily life in India, even if people dont notice it quickly.
