India Gets Its First Truck-Mounted Attenuator to Improve Highway Safety

By Jony Shekhawat | Published Date : December 26, 2025

Vertis Infrastructure launches India’s first truck-mounted attenuator to protect highway workers, making construction zones safer with impact-absorbing technology on trucks and mini trucks.

Vertis Infrastructure has launched India’s first Truck-Mounted Attenuator (TMA) at the Ador Campus in Pune. This system is made to protect highway workers and drivers in live construction zones by absorbing impacts during accidents. The technology is already used in commercial vehicles in the United States and Europe and now India is joining the list of countries using it for safer roads.

Highway construction sites can be very risky. Vehicles move fast, barriers are limited and workers are very close to traffic. The TMA system acts like a safety cushion on trucks, mini trucks and electric trucks. If a vehicle hits the truck from behind, the attenuator absorbs the force and slows down the vehicle carefully. This helps reduce injuries and sometimes even saves lives.

According to Ankit Yadav of NHAI, the goal is to make highways accident-free. He mentioned that safety tools like the truck-mounted attenuator in mini trucks are useful to keep people working on roads safe.

How Vertis Made It

Zafar, Joint CEO of Vertis Infrastructure, explained that the TMA was made to keep workers safe in dangerous traffic situations. The system has been used on Indian roads since 2021 and has already helped prevent more than 100 deaths.

Currently, twenty TMA units are ready to be used on highways. Eight units were launched at the event and the remaining twelve will be delivered within ten days. The launch also included a live demo to show how the TMA works in real traffic. There were also briefings on how to deploy the system safely and discussions about using it on more national highways.

What’s Next

With these truck-mounted attenuators on service trucks and mini trucks, highway construction zones in India are expected to become much safer. Vertis Infrastructure plans to expand this technology to more highway projects, making work-zone accidents less likely and protecting both workers and drivers.

Frequently Asked Questions on Commercial Vehicles

Q1: What is a truck-mounted attenuator (TMA)?

Ans: It’s a crash-absorbing device mounted on trucks to protect highway workers and reduce accident severity in live construction zones.

Q2: How does TMA improve safety?

Ans: In case of a rear-end collision, the TMA absorbs impact energy, slowing down the vehicle and preventing serious injuries or fatalities.

Q3: Where will these TMAs be used?

Ans: They will be deployed on national highways in active construction zones using service trucks, mini trucks and electric trucks.

Q4: How many TMAs has Vertis Infrastructure launched?

Ans: Twenty units are ready; eight were launched at the Pune event and twelve will be delivered within ten days.
