Hindustan Zinc Launches EV Bus Fleet for Green Transport in Rajasthan

By Amit Jangra | Published Date : April 21, 2026

Hindustan Zinc launched electric buses in Rajasthan to reduce emissions, expand green transport and support its net-zero goal with a 41-bus deployment plan.

In Udaipur’s Debari unit, Hindustan Zinc has begun operating electric buses as part of its move towards cleaner and greener transportation.  This marks an important move towards cleaner and greener transport inside company operations. The company has launched this project as part of a bigger plan to introduce around 41 electric buses across different sites in the state. The focus is clearly on shifting from diesel based transport to electric mobility for employees.

The main reason for this change is to cut Scope 3 emissions that come from employee travel. Switching diesel buses to electric buses will help reduce carbon emissions a lot.  Hindustan Zinc estimates that this change will help avoid more than 11,000 tonnes of CO₂ equivalent emissions during the contract period. The initiative shows how industrial companies are now taking responsibility for indirect emissions too.

Partnership and Expansion Plan

This electric buses fleet has been introduced in collaboration with Enviiiro Wheels Mobility Pvt. Ltd. The Debari unit is just the beginning phase of this rollout. More buses will be added gradually across other operational sites in Rajasthan under the 41-bus deployment plan. The idea is to build a smooth and low-emission transport system for employees across all locations.

Sustainability and Future Goals

According to Arun Misra, CEO of Hindustan Zinc, this step fits well with the company’s long-term decarbonisation goals and its aim to become net-zero by 2050 or earlier. At present, renewable energy makes up around 18% of its total usage. It has signed a 530 MW round-the-clock renewable energy agreement, which will cover more than 70% of its power needs in the coming years. Some initial supply from this agreement has already started.

Being part of the Science Based Targets initiative and the International Council on Mining and Metals shows Hindustan Zinc’s global sustainability focus. The company was also named the top metals and mining firm in the S&P Global Corporate Sustainability Assessment 2025.

Hindustan Zinc, part of the Vedanta Group, is a leading zinc producer and also one of the largest silver producers in the world. The company supplies its materials to more than 40 countries. The introduction of buses and electric buses reflects its continued focus on cleaner industrial operations and future-ready transport systems.
