The total bids received for all 11 barriers were Rs 173.89 crore. But till now, Rs 171.48 crore has been deposited. The remaining Rs 2.40 crore is expected by March 15.
However, the state department refused to provide info on how much the contractors earned from these tolls, saying it’s “third-party information.” Even after Section 11 of RTI Act notice, the contractors didn’t allow disclosure.
Revenue Growth Compared to Last Year
A senior official, requesting anonymity, said that in the previous FY 2024–25, the state earned around Rs 151.29 crore from similar toll auctions. This year’s collection is clearly higher.
Some tolls are on National Highways, where NHAI collects toll too. Still, state-run toll barriers generate good revenue as trucks, mini trucks, pickups and buses pass daily.
Importance of Toll Auctions
Toll auctions are becoming an important source of income for Himachal. The steady rise in collection shows the demand and use of these barriers is increasing. With more trucks and buses on the roads, state revenue from entry tax is likely to grow further.
