Distillers group asks government to increase ethanol use and support flex-fuel vehicles to reduce oil imports, control fuel cost and improve India’s energy future.

A group of distillers in India has ask the government to use more ethanol in fuel. They also say that flex-fuel vehicles should get support faster. This message was given in a letter to Union Minister Nitin Gadkari.

They feel this step can help country in saving money and also reduce fuel problems. Right now petrol already have 20% ethanol mixed and this target was reached before time. It happen because of good support from government and industry work. But still, group think more work is needed.

The group also talked about rising problems in the world, especially in the Middle East. Because of this, oil prices are going up again and it may affect India badly. If oil becomes more costly, then transport like trucks, mini trucks, buses and pickups may also become expensive to run.

So, they feel India should depend less on crude oil and use more local fuel options like ethanol. This can make the country more safe in terms of energy and also help in future.

The group suggested that ethanol blending should go beyond 20% and reach around 30%. This can reduce oil imports a lot. They also strongly said that flex-fuel vehicles should be introduced quickly. These vehicles can run on higher ethanol levels, even up to 100% in some cases.
