Electric 3-wheelers are becoming a practical choice for passenger and cargo transport, offering lower running costs, fast charging options and improved battery performance for daily operations.
Exponent Energy just got ₹200 crore in funding. This will help the Bengaluru startup grow more. They make charging solutions for commercial electric vehicles. The money will be used to enter markets create new products and improve their technology.
The funding round was led by 360 ONE Asset and TDK Ventures. Some existing investors also invested again. This usually means they are happy with how the company's doing.
For Exponent, this is not just another funding announcement. It marks a point where the company is preparing to move from building and testing its technology to expanding it on a much larger scale.

Among the new investors, Hitachi Ventures stood out. This is the first time the venture arm of the Japanese technology giant has invested in India's energy sector. At the same time, existing investors such as Eight Roads Ventures, Lightspeed, 3one4 Capital and AdvantEdge VC continued their backing. YourNest, one of the company's earliest supporters, also invested again through its Continuum Fund. TDK Ventures increased its participation as well.
With this latest round completed, Exponent's total funding has now reached nearly $66 million since the company started operations in 2020. That's a significant jump for a startup that was relatively unknown just a few years ago.
Company Wants Charging to Be Less of a Problem
Ask any fleet operator about electric vehicles and charging usually comes up within the first few minutes of conversation. Exponent has built its business around solving that issue. The company has made its system, for charging electric vehicles. This system includes boxes that hold energy the machines that do the charging and the computer programs that control everything. The company Exponent says that this system can completely fill up an electric vehicle in about fifteen minutes. The company also promises that the system will work properly for a time it will work for three thousand times of charging and it uses the regular kind of batteries that most people use, which are called lithium-ion battery cells.
Looking Beyond Charging Stations
Although Exponent is often described as a charging company, its ambitions seem much broader. The business today rests on three different pieces. One focuses on energy and charging technology. Another, called Exponent OTO, is linked to mobility solutions. The third, Exponent ONE, deals with financing and asset management.
The idea is fairly straightforward. Many businesses interested in EVs don't struggle with just one problem. They need charging support, suitable vehicles and access to funding at the same time. Exponent believes bringing these services together can make adoption easier, particularly for commercial users. This could be relevant for operators running 3-wheelers in last-mile transport, where every hour of vehicle availability can make a difference.
Expansion Is Now the Priority
Founder and CEO Arun Vinayak described the latest funding as the beginning of a new chapter rather than the end of one. According to him, the company's early years were spent proving that the technology could perform reliably in actual operating conditions. Millions of charging sessions later, Exponent now feels ready to scale. The company refers to this next phase as "Exponent 2.0." That growth is expected to include expansion into new cities, entry into additional vehicle segments and further investment in research and development.
Why Investors Are Paying Attention
Investors backing the company say one of the biggest strengths is the amount of technology Exponent controls itself. Rather than depending heavily on outside suppliers for critical systems, the company has built much of the charging and battery ecosystem internally. Supporters believe that gives Exponent greater control over performance and reliability.
As India's EV sector continues to grow, infrastructure companies are expected to play a much bigger role than they do today.
For Exponent Energy, the challenge now is different from what it was a few years ago. Building the technology was one task. Taking it across cities, vehicle segments and customer groups is another. The fresh ₹200 crore funding gives the company a chance to try exactly that, while also tapping opportunities emerging across the commercial EV market, including areas connected with Piaggio 3-wheelers and other fleet-focused mobility solutions.
