The investment was announced through a non-binding facilitation Memorandum of Understanding signed with the Government of Tamil Nadu at the Tamil Nadu Investment Conclave. If it goes ahead as proposed, it would take DICV's cumulative investment in India past Rs 14,500 crore, and the company expects the plan to create roughly 400 jobs over the proposed period. Since its market launch in 2012, BharatBenz has put more than 220,000 trucks and buses on Indian roads across freight, construction, mining, logistics and passenger mobility.

The company currently runs a 400-acre integrated manufacturing and R&D facility at Oragadam near Chennai, employing more than 4,000 people and supported by over 400 local suppliers. Roughly 92% of the value in BharatBenz products is already localised through that Indian supplier ecosystem, which is a notably high figure for a commercial vehicle manufacturer operating at this scale. The BharatBenz sales and service network spans more than 420 dealer and service touchpoints, and the company recently opened a Parts Logistics Centre in Pune to further support parts availability and dealer operations.

The company has exported more than 75,000 trucks and buses and over 330 million parts to more than 70 markets, and it also supplies Chennai-manufactured transmissions to Daimler Truck plants in Germany.
