Delhi Govt Plans New Move to Put Devi Buses on Big Routes

Small Devi buses may run on big-bus routes to solve Delhi’s bus shortage and give smoother travel to passengers.

The Delhi government is working on a new idea to solve the shortage of bus services in the DTC fleet. The plan will allow small Devi buses, which are electric and easy to move in traffic, to run on routes where earlier only big 12-meter buses were used.

Passenger complaints are rising, especially in Yamuna-par areas, where many people say bus service is not available on time. Because some CNG buses are going off the road and new routes were not promoted properly, waiting time increased. To reduce this problem, the government wants to use electric buses and Devi buses on busy stretches.

Plan to shift 50% Devi buses

Officials said almost 50% of Devi buses may be sent to big-bus routes. This will support the main fleet and help people get faster service. The idea is to balance demand, keep travel smooth, and make sure no route stays without a bus.

Pilot project completed in East Delhi

DTC confirmed that its pilot project for route redesign in East Delhi is finished. Under this plan, around 692 CNG buses will slowly exit the road by year-end. The same redesign will happen in West and North Delhi also. Even with fewer vehicles, the department said at least one bus will run on every route.

Study of 121 routes shows heavy DTC load

As per the calculation, from 121 routes, 100 routes were operated by DTC, including 12 routes with cluster buses and 9 routes have both types of buses. Recently, there are 2442 CNG buses in Delhi, including 62 DTC buses and 1750 Cluster buses. Using more electric buses and small staff-style buses will help fill the gaps.

What this means for daily travellers

If Devi buses join the main network, passengers may get faster and easy travel, with less waiting time. It will also push clean mobility, as more electric buses and smart small buses come into daily service. This plan will expand after checking performance and public response.
