Coretura Teams Up with Accenture to Advance Software Platform for Heavy Commercial Vehicles

By Jony Shekhawat | Published Date : June 25, 2026

Coretura has partnered with Accenture to accelerate the development of a standardized software-defined vehicle platform for trucks, buses, and heavy-duty commercial vehicles, aiming to support long-term vehicle performance, software updates, and faster product development.

The commercial vehicle industry is changing quickly, and software is becoming just as important as engines and hardware. In line with this shift, Coretura has entered into an engineering partnership with Accenture to support the development of a common software platform for future electric trucks, buses, and other heavy-duty vehicles.

Coretura, a joint venture equally owned by Daimler Truck and Volvo Group, is working on a software-defined vehicle (SDV) platform that is expected to reach the market later this decade. The latest agreement is another step toward that goal.

Instead of creating software separately for every new vehicle project, Coretura wants to develop a platform that can be reused across multiple generations of vehicles. The idea is simple: build one strong software foundation that can continue evolving.

Accenture will contribute engineering support in areas such as electrical and electronic architecture, software abstraction, system integration, testing, and compliance. However, Coretura will remain responsible for the platform's overall design and long-term direction. The companies believe this approach can make development more efficient and reduce unnecessary duplication of work.

Why New Software Matters

For many years, vehicle manufacturers have typically developed software for individual projects. While that method works, it often means starting over again when a new vehicle platform is introduced. Coretura is trying to move away from that process. By creating a shared software stack, manufacturers may be able to reduce development effort and bring products to market more smoothly.

Designed for Vehicles With Long Working Lives

Unlike passenger cars, commercial vehicles often stay on the road for well over a decade. Some vehicles continue operating for 15 years or even longer. Because of that, the platform is being designed to support updates throughout a vehicle's lifecycle. Fleet operators could receive software improvements and new functions remotely without major physical modifications. For businesses operating 10-wheeler trucks across regional routes, this type of flexibility may help keep vehicles updated for a longer period.

Focus on Technology, Safety and Performance

According to Coretura, developing a full SDV platform requires expertise in several specialised areas, including embedded software, middleware, cybersecurity, and functional safety. Accenture's engineering teams will also work on hardware abstraction, API management, and AI-assisted engineering processes. These technologies may later support a wide range of applications, including fleets of 12-wheeler trucks and larger 14-wheeler trucks used for freight movement.

Looking Ahead

The partnership shows how software is playing a role in the transportation sector. The transportation sector is really changing because of software. As the project moves forward the platform could support a lot of things. This includes 16-wheeler trucks that move industrial goods and 18-wheeler trucks that cover long-distance freight routes, in the transportation sector. The transportation sector will see a lot of changes because of the partnership and the software. For the industry, it signals a future where software updates and digital capabilities become a normal part of operating commercial vehicles.

Rather than focusing only on the next vehicle launch, Coretura is looking at how trucks and buses can continue improving throughout their working life. That long-term approach is what makes this project particularly interesting for the commercial transport sector.

Frequently Asked Questions on Commercial Vehicles

Q1. What is the average mileage of a 10-wheeler truck in India?

Ans. Most 10-wheeler trucks deliver around 4 to 6 kmpl, depending on payload, road conditions, driving habits, and engine specifications. Mileage may vary between routes and applications.

Q2. What is the loading capacity of a 14-wheeler truck?

Ans. A 14-wheeler truck generally offers a payload capacity between 16 and 22 tonnes. The exact figure depends on the truck model, axle configuration, and body type.

Q3. What is the price range of a heavy-duty truck or horse in India?

Ans. The price of a heavy truck horse (tractor unit) typically starts from around ₹30 lakh and can exceed ₹55 lakh depending on engine power, cabin features, drivetrain configuration, and brand.

Q4. Which is better for long-distance transport: a 16-wheeler or an 18-wheeler truck?

Ans. Both are suitable for long-haul operations. A 16-wheeler truck is often preferred for medium-heavy cargo, while an 18-wheeler truck is generally chosen for higher payload requirements and interstate freight movement.
