Bajaj Auto dominated passenger 3-wheeler sales in Q4 FY26, while Mahindra secured second position with strong performance in north and east India.
India’s passenger 3 wheelers market remained active during the last quarter of FY26 as Bajaj Auto recorded the highest sales in the auto-rickshaw segment across the country. The latest SIAM sales report for January to March 2026 showed strong demand for passenger auto vehicles in multiple regions, especially in the west and south zones.
People connected with the transport business say daily city travel demand, local passenger movement and affordable transport services are helping the 3 wheelers segment maintain stable growth in many Indian states. Auto-rickshaws are still widely used because they remain cheaper compared to larger passenger vehicles.

Bajaj Auto became the highest-selling brand in the passenger carrier category during Q4 FY26. The company sold more than 1.17 lakh units during the quarter. Out of this, the west zone alone contributed over 43,000 units while the south zone also reported strong numbers.
Industry people believe Bajaj continues performing strongly because its passenger auto products already have a wide presence in local transport markets. Many drivers prefer vehicles with lower maintenance cost and easy spare part availability.
Reports connected with the sales data also showed that loading autos and passenger carriers are both seeing regular demand in urban and semi-urban markets. Small business operators and local transport users continue depending heavily on these vehicles for daily work.
Mahindra Holds Second Position
Mahindra secured the second spot in the passenger 3 wheelers segment during the fourth quarter. The company sold nearly 25,000 units across different zones. Maximum contribution came from the east and north regions where passenger movement through small transport vehicles remains very common.
People connected with the commercial vehicle market say Mahindra has maintained a stable customer base in rural and regional transport operations for many years. Demand for public transport vehicles usually increases in areas where affordable shared mobility services are important for daily travel. Industry experts feel passenger auto demand remained steady because many small transport operators continue adding vehicles for local routes and short-distance travel work.
Piaggio and TVS Also Perform Well
Piaggio Vehicles secured the third position with over 18,000 units sold during the quarter. The company remained especially strong in the south zone where it recorded most of its sales numbers. TVS Motor also reported good performance in the passenger carrier segment. Sales remained balanced across all major zones, showing that the brand has developed a wide market presence gradually.
At the same time, electric 3 wheelers are also slowly gaining attention in some cities. Fleet owners and small operators are checking EV options mainly for lower running cost and city delivery work. However, fuel-powered autos still dominate most passenger transport operations currently.
Smaller Brands Continue Expanding
Brands like Atul Auto, Montra Electric, Baxy and EKA Mobility also remained active in the market during Q4 FY26. These companies together contributed additional sales in both passenger and local mobility categories.
People connected with the automobile sector believe future growth in 3 wheelers may continue because urban transport demand, shared mobility and short-distance passenger services are increasing slowly in many regions. Industry reports also suggest loading autos and electric passenger carriers could see stronger demand in coming years as city transport patterns continue changing across India.
