Ashok Leyland Partners with PT Pindad for Electric Buses and Defence Vehicles

Indian commercial vehicle maker Ashok Leyland has signed a partnership with Indonesia’s state-owned company PT Pindad. The two companies will work together to make electric buses and defence vehicles. This step is expected to help both countries in clean transport and defence cooperation.

The Memorandum of Understanding was signed on Tuesday at PT Pindad’s headquarters in Bandung, Indonesia.

As part of the agreement, Ashok Leyland and PT Pindad will jointly develop and manufacture electric buses and defence vehicles. These vehicles will be designed specially for Indonesia’s transport needs and national security use.

Ashok Leyland will bring its experience in electric vehicle platforms and defence mobility. PT Pindad will support the project with its engineering strength and local manufacturing facilities. Ashok Leyland trucks are gaining popularity day by day.

Agreement Signed in Presence of Senior Leaders

The MoU was signed with senior officials from both organisations present at the event. Among them were Prof. Sigit P. Santosa who leads PT Pindad as its Chief Executive Officer, Amandeep Singh who heads International Operations Defence LCV and PSB at Ashok Leyland and Lord Tariq who serves as Advisor to the Board at Hinduja Auto. The presence of top leadership showed the importance of this partnership.

Supporting Indonesia’s Clean Transport and Defence Plans

The partnership matches Indonesia’s push towards cleaner transport and stronger defence systems. Electric buses developed under this collaboration are expected to improve public transport and also help in cutting down vehicle emissions. 

The defence vehicles developed locally will support Indonesia’s goal of strengthening its security forces at the same time.

Electric Buses to Match Local Conditions

Amandeep Singh said that Ashok Leyland’s electric vehicle arm Switch Mobility has already developed electric buses used in many global markets. He added that working with PT Pindad will help create vehicles suited for Indonesia’s road climate and operating conditions.

This local focus is expected to improve performance and reliability.
