Montra Electric has launched its latest electric truck the Rhino 5538 EV 4x2 TT at its Manesar plant in Haryana. This new heavy-duty truck is built for long routes and introduces battery swapping technology for the first time in the Montra trucks lineup.

The Rhino 5538 EV isn’t just about size it packs serious power too. With a 282 kWh LFP battery, it puts out 380 HP and a huge 2000 Nm torque. Fully charged, it goes nearly 200 km, which is good enough for most long-haul cargo trips.

This electric truck supports a 6-speed AMT gearbox and can carry a massive 55-ton Gross Combination Weight (GCW). It’s designed to work with different trailers and offers the strength needed for heavy loads.

The price? Around ₹1.15 crore (ex-showroom) for the fixed-battery version. But Montra is adding value with a 10-year or 9 lakh km AMC contract, promising 95% uptime — something logistics companies will definitely appreciate.

Battery Swapping in Under 6 Minutes

One of the standout features of this truck is the fast battery swapping system. Instead of waiting 1–2 hours to charge, drivers can swap the battery in just under six minutes.
The swap station follows a 7+1 configuration and can manage up to 160 swaps daily. It’s designed like a toll plaza trucks, even with trailers attached, can drive in and out quickly.

This setup helps logistics companies save time, reduce costs and stick to their green mobility goals.

A Step Forward for India’s EV Market

At the event, Arun Murugappan, Chairman of Montra Electric, said:

“We’re solving the real problems faced by EV fleet operators. From swapping tech to smart platforms, we’re making clean trucks more practical and reliable.”

Jalaj Gupta, Managing Director, added:

“This launch shows our commitment to innovation and sustainability. The new Rhino electric truck will push India forward in the global EV space.”

Built on Real-World Experience

Montra already made headlines with its earlier Rhino 6x4 TT, which was India’s first heavy-duty electric truck. That model has already covered over 1.2 crore kilometers in just two years — showing that Indian fleets are ready for EV adoption.

With the new Rhino 5538, Montra is now doubling down on performance, uptime and green tech — making it clear that electric trucks aren’t just the future. They’re the now.
