Ludhiana has more than 60,000 registered electric vehicles at present. These include electric two-wheelers, electric three-wheelers and electric cars. Many transport operators are also using electric buses,  electric mini trucks and electric trucks for city transport. High fuel prices and pollution are the main reasons for this change.

Charging Shortage Creates Daily Problems

Right now the city has very few EV charging stations. Because of this many users face problems during daily travel. Vehicles often run low on battery on longer routes. This is a big issue for electric buses electric 3-wheelers and delivery vehicles like electric mini trucks.

PPP Model to Reduce MC Spending

A senior Municipal Corporation official said the proposal will soon be placed before the Finance and Contract Committee. Under the PPP model, a private company will install and operate the charging stations. The Municipal Corporation will provide land and approvals. The MC will not spend money on this project.

Support for Commercial Electric Vehicles

The new charging stations will help both private and commercial electric vehicles. Operators using mini trucks, electric buses and 3-wheelers will get easier access to charging. This will help save time and reduce delays.

Step Towards Cleaner Transport

The Municipal Corporation believes better charging facilities will push more people to use electric vehicles. With enough charging points EVs can become a reliable option for city travel. This project is seen as an important step towards cleaner transport in Ludhiana.
