IntrCity Starts New Clean-Air Buses Across Key North Routes
By Amit Jangra | Published Date : November 25, 2025
IntrCity launched a new air-purified SmartBus fleet in North India, offering real-time AQI monitoring and clean-air travel on busy high-pollution intercity routes.
IntrCity SmartBus has now started a fresh fleet of air-purified intercity buses, aiming to give travellers a little safer and cleaner journey during long trips. The company says that people are more worried these days about the air they breathe while travelling and because of that, they introduced a new feature called SmartBus.AQI. This system continues to clean the air inside the bus and also shows real-time pollution numbers to passengers, which honestly is something not many other inter city buses offer right now.

Before launching these upgraded vehicles, IntrCity tested air quality on many busy highways. Their tests showed that pollution inside normal buses was going two to three times higher than WHO’s safe limit, which was quite surprising for many. To solve this, IntrCity partnered with Respirer Living Sciences, a ClimateTech company known for AI-powered pollution tracking and clean-air technology. Together they made a system that keeps the air inside the bus cleaner and also lets travellers see what AQI they are breathing throughout the ride.
New Filtration Modules Bring Cleaner Travel Experience
The new buses use special filtration modules that target PM2.5, carbon dioxide, smoke, dust and other small particles. During pilot running, IntrCity said PM2.5 levels mostly stayed around 15 µg/m³ for almost 90% of the trip, which is very close to WHO’s recommended 24-hour limit. Passengers can check live AQI and PM2.5 numbers on screens inside the bus or simply on the IntrCity mobile app, which makes the whole thing more transparent.
The tech behind SmartBus.AQI mixes AI-based monitoring with a patent-pending filtration system developed by Respirer. For now, these air-purified buses are moving on high-traffic and high-pollution routes like Lucknow, Kanpur, Katra and Pathankot, but the company says more routes may get upgraded later.
Expansion Across 630+ Routes, With More Features Coming
IntrCity already operates on 630 routes across 15 states and this new rollout adds another layer to its standard services like digital check-ins, onboard washrooms and boarding lounges. They even launched a special microsite to share technical updates about this AQI system. Respirer Living Sciences, founded in 2017, runs more than 3,500 monitoring devices in 35+ cities, serving government and private organisations. With this partnership, their work now expands into the intercity travel sector too, where demand for cleaner, more transparent travel is growing very fast, especially as people compare options with electric buses and other modern vehicles.
