Galp Expands Fast-Charging Stations Along the A2 Motorway

By Mahender Singh | Published Date : January 09, 2026

Galp expands high-speed EV chargers on A2 motorway. 48 new stations with comfort features help cars, electric buses and electric mini trucks on long-distance routes.

Galp has started expanding its fast-charging stations on the A2 motorway. This road is very busy and connects Lisbon with Faro. Many drivers use this route for long travel, so charging support here matters a lot. Galp wants electric vehicle users to feel more relaxed while driving long distance.

The new chargers can deliver power up to 400 kW. These charging points are mainly made for drivers who travel long routes and do not want to stop for long time. Galp did not clearly say how many chargers are installed at each place, but the focus is clearly on speed and highway travel.

Galp says their charging stations are not just about fast charging. They also worked on making the places comfortable. The sites have proper night lighting, so drivers feel safe even at late hours. There are also covered areas where vehicles can charge, which helps during rain or hot weather.

Another good thing is the barrier-free lanes. These lanes help all kind of vehicles to enter easily. This is useful not only for cars but also for electric buses, electric mini trucks and other bigger vehicles using the motorway.

This Is Just the First Step

The 48 fast-charging points on the A2 motorway are only the first part of Galp’s bigger plan. The company is also planning to install 48 more high-speed chargers on the A1 motorway. These new chargers will be placed at four charging hubs and are expected to be ready by the end of the first quarter.

After this phase, there will be total 96 high-power charging points on the A1 and A2 motorways together. This shows Galp is serious about building strong EV infrastructure in Portugal.

Power Capacity Will Increase Strongly

Imagine driving on the A2 motorway and stopping to charge your car. Galp says that when all chargers are ready, the stations together can deliver 20 megawatts. Each charger can give almost 200 kW, so your electric car or even electric mini truck won’t have to wait long.

Such capacity will support not only private electric cars but also electric trucks and commercial vehicles in future.

Private and Heavy Transport Also Important

Galp is not working only on public charging. Private charging projects are also growing fast for the company. Galp works with big companies to reduce vehicle emissions.

The company is also supporting electric trucks. A major step was installing a 400 kW charger for heavy vehicles, helping Portugal’s first fully electric freight route move forward.
