Delhi and Norway Discuss Joint Efforts on EV Policy and Adoption

By Amit Jangra | Published Date : August 29, 2025

Delhi and Norway discussed ways to support electric vehicle use, focusing on clean public transport, EV policy exchange and real-world adoption strategies.

New Delhi: Delhi is making moves in the electric vehicle (EV) space and this week, it got some international attention. Transport Minister Pankaj Singh met with a delegation from Norway to discuss how both sides are approaching EV adoption.

The goal? Share ideas and learn from each other from the policy side to what works in public transport.

The Norwegian visitors were especially interested in the DEVI electric buses running in Delhi. These are part of the Delhi Electric Vehicle Initiative, which has added modern electric buses to the city’s transport fleet.

One of the delegates pointed out that the 9-metre electric buses looked like a smart choice for last-mile travel — that part of the journey between the metro and your doorstep.

They seemed to like how these buses were small enough to get through traffic but still useful for daily passengers.

Technology, Accessibility and Clean Energy

The DEVI buses are more than just electric. They are also equipped with:

  • CCTV cameras for safety
  • GPS tracking for live updates
  • Panic buttons for emergencies
  • Motorised ramps and low-floor designs for easy boarding, especially for elderly passengers or those with disabilities

This focus on inclusive and sustainable transport caught the attention of the Norwegian side.

Knowledge Sharing Between Delhi and Oslo

During the meeting, Minister Pankaj Singh said that both Delhi and Norway can learn from each other. While Oslo, Norway’s capital, is much smaller than Delhi, it has years of experience in EV policy, including:

  • Charging station infrastructure
  • Integration of electric vehicles with public transport
  • Parking solutions and urban planning

“We are looking forward to sending our experts to Norway to learn more,” Singh said. “At the same time, they are also interested in how we’ve managed to scale electric buses in a large city like Delhi.”

Moving Forward Together

This was more than just a polite diplomatic talk. It was about practical steps, real buses on the ground and how two different places can learn from each other.

Delhi’s push for electric buses and better public transport seems to be catching global attention and that’s a good sign.
